Has anyone heard the Cypherus Audio earbuds? A few people are praising them on HF. They have some weird names to them, one being CampFred.

I've never had a nice set of buds, but might try a decent pair. I don't think I'll truly appreciate them though as I'd imagine it would be hard to have a good bass response.

The VE Zen may be what you are looking for. They are pricey but it's not a random company.

Why them? What makes you suggest them, if you don't mind?

Because they have a good low end. They need a good amp though.

quite scooped midrange though. I am not sure he was asking for *only* good bass :p

I don't think the midrange is a weak point by any means. The earbuds may have a slight emphasis in the bass and sub bass region but they are not focused on that.

If I recall correctly the Zen 2 were made with the HD600 sound signature in mind.

I'd like to try those next after experiences with VE Zen 2 and Stardust, it's really only the Head-fi scene that's had their hands on them as of now. CAX Black is like $280 USD + shipping as a frame of reference.

Don't forget the treble roll-off. Was not impressed by Zen at all.

sorry if this has been asked already... but where can I get the "best" covers for earbuds? I would like to try some different ones, I only got foam donuts with my Stardust - which sound great, but I am thinking for work/long term listening, maybe something reducing the slight splashiness a bit would be great.

they sound a lot better from my phone than from my GeekOut 2A (Infinity) though! quite happy with them, midrange really does sound good! I suspect my phone is a little warmer sounding.

Hmm, to reduce treble you'd need full foam covers. Look into feng or hiegi foam as good upgrades. I got Hiegi foam donuts which I'm really enjoying on stardust, as they addressed my complaints about congestion. Bass impact is a bit low now, but still good enough.

Cool. The Hiegi were recommended elsewhere too, I think I might try to get those. Shame they are not available in Canada from what I can tell. :p might have to order from the USA.

Is this the one? I found no others with Prime option available.

    Thank you!

I have bought both Feng and Heigi foams from penon. They are thick and of good quality. It will supress the high freq for sure an also increase the bass impact.

Just joined the forum and looking forward to participating in this thread. I have a particular interest in earbuds because in-ear are uncomfortable for me and I don't want isolation.

Interesting to see such conflicting reactions for each earbud model. This is in contrast to full size headphones, where there is usually some consensus about the overall character for a particular model, even when people have different preferences. However, for earbuds people express some very opposite experiences, I suppose caused by individual ear fitment.

Here's my history with earbuds. A very, very long time ago I was using the top earbud models from Sony and Audio Technica. Yuin appeared on the scene, and I liked their sound much more. For many years now Yuin have been my everyday buds, but they aren't durable and I've been replacing them about once a year when I get a wire breakage. I've been going back and forth among the OK2,3 and PK2,3 models. I have also used some Blox earbuds, which have similar character to Yuin.

Now I'm interested in exploring other models. The constant flow of new earbuds from Asia is quite incredible. I have on order a Zen2 (not Cardas) and 1More E1008.

Zen2 while good technically has a very uneven FR. Forget any upper midrange and too much bass reverb. Pair with very thin foams and good amplification to get the best out of them.

Just placed the order for two pairs of Monk VE ear buds. I generally avoid ear buds but my trusted friends love the thingies so hey, give them a try.

    Do you recommend certain tips?

If you like bass, then use thick foams or 2 thin foams else only use 1 thin foam which comes with the package...
And also please burnin for atleast 50 hours before concluding on sound quality :)

Wish you luck for your earbud journey, may you find many treasures on your way :D
