It will appeal more to the "traditional" audiophile this way :drunk:

Lotta pruning gone on here. It was much more interesting and informative before, IMO.

I've pretty much dedicated my Studio solely to my speakers. Sublime in that setup, with exceptional open directional sonic cues. And with multiple audio gear configurations at my disposal, I find that for my headphone sessions I prefer the Yggdrasil > Krell > TH900 signal train for engagement and clarity.

Okay, I'm officially a firm believer in burn-in (again), with the tubes being new as well (Psvane-T Gr.A). The TH900s sound very fine with the amp now. There's a welcoming warmth there that wasn't present in my Phantom 3. The dark veil bloomed. Kudos to Craig.

I had a chance to listen to @drfindley's Studio again today with my HD800S. All it did was affirm what I thought before. The Studio is a phenomenal amp and a brilliant pairing with the HD800S. It is as good as any headphone/amp combo I've heard, be it dynamic or electrostatic.

I took delivery yesterday and had my Studio running for 24 hours now. All seems fine: single ended or balanced with my DAC. It does sound significantly different to my 2A3 and seems to be very transparent to upstream changes and any of the tubes used. Always a good sign imo.

This should be a decent setup for my coin modded HD650s.
(Ok, joking aside, I also happen to have a couple other transducers)

I'll comment more on the sound after a few days. A pic for now.

My studio (#12) arrived last night. I stayed up late listening with a big smile on my face.

Yesterday was the first time to hear an EC amp and what an experience it was! As Marv would say, ho-lee-fuk... Hahah. Studio is crazy! Headphones or speakers bring it on. I asked Craig if the speakers were Cicadas, he laughed saying - "nope, those were made in the Philippines and cost $28!"

Though it was a very brief listen, I have no problems stating that the Studio brought out the best of what Ether-C's can do. It was seriously transformational and bore no resemblance to the sound produced with the Master-11/Ether-C pairing I previously ran at home. Craig's judgment - these cans like transformers better. I went home with my new ZDS but spent the time fighting LA traffic thinking about how to swing the Studio! Good thing I have the HD800S to keep me plenty happy.

Regarding all the Yggdrasil balance>studio problem.
    Just some thoughts and questions:
Is turning down the volume in the software side gonna solve the problem?
Because if Yggdrasil's output is too hot for 600ohm then turning it down digitally would make it less hot I suppose?
Since I remember reading something about foobar2k's volume control turns everything to 32bit hence remaining bit-perfect.
And I'm sure some other player does that as well.

Question: Does the Studio or BA shock mount the 300B/2A3 tube sockets ? If so I'm curious what is used for this. If not, then presumably microphonics is simply of no concern?

    TIA

Rubber isolation cone feet included. Recommend audiophile approved maple butch block or other accessories if it's that important to you.

OK so I guess the sockets aren't isolated from the chassis. I had been considering doing so in a diy jobbie, thinking the 300Bs could be fairly microphonic, and anything might help. But it seems like I should just follow the leader on this... :)

The song played was November by Tom Waits. Eerily haunting and imaging was astounding - makes me wonder how much better it gets!

Candidates for Cicada. Ultimately, they lacked the clarity the Cicadas had, so not going into production with them.

How does the 2a3 MK4 compare to the Studio? They use the same tubes so i suppose the circuit is quite similar?

Circuit mostly the same. Different transformers.

Hi @Marvey I was curious how many 45 versions have ever been built and which direction you or Craig might steer someone who inquires about the 45 vs 2A3. I've heard a lot of positive feedback on the 45 in low power speaker amps, perhaps the one that I remember most:

    - 2A3: It's like having sex with a condom.
    - 45: It's like having sex without a condom.

General consensus seems to be more openness, detail, and neutrality with the latter. And at least in the speaker amp realm, it seems rare to find someone who prefers the 2A3 over the 45. Not sure if that translates to headphone amps or not?
