5842. These AVVT's are staying in. :) They need some time before fuller impressions, but the qualities that leap out are incredibly holographic staging, while staying pin-point precise - please ridiculous detail retrieval. Bass is a bit fuller than the RCA's, and just a touch looser. Word is, it'll tighten up a bit when they get some burn.

One thing you guys might be able to help with - the pins are incredibly tight in the sockets. By design, the AVVT's have very slightly larger pins for snug fit. With the quality, still new sockets of Studio, it's stupid tight; such that I can't fully seat a few of them by gripping the base. Any suggestions on an electrically appropriate lubricant? I don't want to spread the female pin receptacles in the socket; as there's life after AVVT's.

Aerosol contact cleaner solvent will probably act as lubricant over the short term.

Who knew buying a studio also got you free round trip holidays to audiophiles globally?! Glad I have one on order ;)

Aren't the EML mesh basically a more reliable AVVT 2a3 mesh (Jac also said the EML was 15% better in his opinion)? Tempted to get a quad of EML mesh and a quad of RCA black dual plate so I have a bit to play with. I don't think I'll find anyone willing to part with a quad of AVVTs anyway.

It's a bit curious to me that folks are gravitating to the mesh plates. Perhaps they work exceptionally well in the Studio, but generally I find more positive opinions of the EML solid plates or preferences for solid over mesh in 2A3 and 300B. Any direct compares of the two in the Studio by chance?
