My ER-4's cable broke, and I want a new cable. I don't want the normal cable from Etymotic, because the microphones are pretty terrible. What should I get?

Regarding your question, you'll need an adapter in order to use any cables other than Ety's stock cable. The adapter must include the resistors that correspond to the "S" or "P" versions, depending on what you have or what you want it to be.

I wrote a tutorial on how to convert the ER-4 using adapters from this seller about halfway down the page.

I have used those adapters (both 2-pin and MMCX) with a variety of high-end cables with good results. Best combo was HM-901 with Mood Audio Silver Dragon balanced cable.
