fs torpedo 3

I have decided to sell my beloved torpedo 3 with cinemags. Best amp for dynamics I have heard to date and I have praised it many many times on sbaf already. For feedback I direct you at the impressions from the last two meets in nyc. The only other piece of audio I have kept as long as the torpedo 3 is my hd650s, and that is a testament to how much this amp has blown me away time and again. I am not sure where to go from here but I do want to try something else.$SOLD

@bazelio has graciously offered to throw in a set of mundorf caps at the cost of shipping for those interested in cap rolling.

I will include a set of ge 12ay7 and ge 6829 for an additional 25 dollars. These are nice NOS tubes.

Great synergy with HD650s, esp with Amperex tubes IMO. Congrats to the new owner.

cold feet are real right now, I freaking love this amp.

 

The biggest impact on the sound of these torpedos is the quality of the cinemags which are basically hand made, variatons are greater than any mods – much greater. I have been told by a few people that my t3 is especially fantastic.

I do not recommend mundorf caps as the tonality of the t3 is magical with hd650s and mundorfs have a different sound. That said @bazelio has offered to include a set of mundorfs ot whoever buys my amp, for the cost of shipping.

I considered the ccs board mod, but again they change the tonality of the amp and emphasize the treble a bit more in my listening experience.

There is obviously a lot of interest in the amp, but if I havent shipped out by Thursday I can bring the torpedo to la for the big meet so that interested parties can be wowed XD

 

Anyone who buys this can have my Mundorfs for the cost of shipping. Someone was going to take them once already, but I forget who now.

They have clipped leads so you'll probably need/want to solder some copper hookup wire to extend them again.

PS... CCS mod. It does some good things. I still think I might slightly prefer my previous implementation without the output CCS boards and AMRG 2W resistors in the plate loading position.... But that's not the easiest thing in the world to A/B, and I've kind of moved on. Now with CCS boards, tube synergy and even headphone synergy might be a bit more important. E.g. I think I prefer the Valvo and Brimar (likely also Mullard, but don't have any) signatures to that of the Amperex. And I probably prefer the HD650 to the HD600 as well. The Elear sounds pretty darn nice through the T3, although it does have its own issues. HD650+Amperex is pretty good maybe bordering on too aggressive, while HD600+Brimar is also pretty good. I suspect HD650 in general works best.

Can these be rewired for 230v?

 

You just have to reconfigure some 'jumpers' on the PCB. It is a five minute desolder/soldering procedure.

 

Remove these two jumpers, and solder a new jumper between B and C.
