    I"m gettting a pre-production 502DAC as discussed in this thread: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/raspberry-pi-i2s-to-spdif-hat.1990/
I'm not a computer guy and I feel like i bit off more than I can chew.
I have a raspbeery pi 3 running LIBREelec v 7.0.3 and Kodi v 16.1. from what I understand the 502DAC can run on anything the Hifiberry DAC+ pro can run on. From what I can tell, I cant run those with my LIBREelec and Kodi. can someone point me in the right direction for what I need to make this work? I have two USB powered HDs onw 1 TB and 1 2TB. I was planning on using this powered USB hub to run them https://thepihut.com/products/7-port-usb-hub-for-the-raspberry-pi
then I read that its not good to use powered hubs and the pi's wifi because they are noisy and I should use a NAS. I had no idea what an NAS was until today. I don't want to spend 200 bucks on an NAS but i do have an old laptop laying around, and saw something about converting one of them. everything I read about the pi or an NAS assumes i already know about computers and Its all like reading foreign language. Also, its important that i can stream Tidal on my new server. If anyone feels like being my super audio friend and helping me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Maybe I missed something in the main thread, but I thought the point of getting one of the pre-production boards was to provide testing/feedback on the design to Michael. Why did you ask for a test board if you don't know what you're doing? How are you supposed to provide meaningful feedback if you can't even get the thing going without needing help on the absolute basics and fundamentals of this stuff?

It really looks to me like you're being opportunistic in snagging a "free" board to build yourself a nice little server, since your primary interest seems to be in making this work as a TIDAL streaming solution for yourself, rather than engaging in the spirit the thing was offered and providing test-feedback in exchange for the hardware.

Personally I think you should send the board to someone else on the thread that wants it and that is capable of making it work, and providing some useful feedback, without having to consume the time and good will of others in an otherwise, apparently, entirely self-serving enterprise.

I've been into audio most of my life. The last 7 years I've been strictly digital. I've got some very nice gear. I was waiting to buy one, I wasn't even thinking about asking when he offered the first 4. he got 9 more and I threw my name in and got one. Excuse me for thinking I needed more than a basic knowledge of computers. When it comes down to it, I might not know more than the basics of computers but I'm obsessed with good sound and have an opinion.

    Edit

I'm not just looking for a Tidal server, I have 3 TB of flacs.

    Second edit

I don't appreciate you assuming my motives with your "self serving" talk. I asked for one of these to compare to my current USB to SPDIF converter, my DAC has an AES/EBU input which Michael was specifically interested in testing.

Reading the thread should have made that pretty clear.

I'll worry about what you do, or do not, appreciate when you contribute something useful instead of just asking for help/stuff from others.

And yet you're not able to help with that unless someone else here spends a bunch of their time getting you up to speed on remedial Raspberry Pi/audio HAT configurations.

I have to agree with @Torq.
But anyways my advice would be to download the Volumio 2 image file.
    https://volumio.org/get-started/
You will find the simplest, most fool proof flashing method on the bottom of that page both for Windows and Mac. Prepare the card.
When your 502DAC arrives use the one of the usb powered HD you already have. Go from there. Try to plug in the other one too. If you can't here any noise than it will be good enough. I think lots of people will use the production model like that anyways so let us know how it sounds. Play with the settings. Learn how volumio works.
I think they will have a Tidal plugin available within a month. Wait for the plugin or send the 502DAC to someone else for more testing.

I think you guys are being the trolls here. Micheal is going to potentially sell hundreds if not thousands of these things. Many of the people are going to just like me, new to the whole idea of pi computing and linux. Don't you think he wants the feedback of that market? I'm sorry for asking the Internet for help and I'm not a Know-it-all. I'm sorry with my working 50 hours a week and supporting a family I don't have 2000 posts. In the time you people have spent lecturing me you could of rattled of a helpful couple paragraphs but you chose to try assume my motives on just wanting free shit.

You are the one making assumptions about the kind of place we are. If you had bothered to lurk and read you would have realized that it's not cool to drop in here and ask the kind of question you did in the manner you did. And you f'ing arrogant ass, you think you are the only one who works hard? What type of shitty LSD did you eat? And a Dead fan? More like Limp Bizkit

The first two parts of that are down to your personal choices and not very relevant to anything here. And what does post-count have to do with anything? (For reference, I think precisely one person here has 2,000 posts or more, and that's the site's proprietor - though, again, not seeing where or how that's relevant here).

In the time you spent starting new threads or making delivery/order shit-posts, you could have done some fundamental searching and discovered the wealth of useful information here on Raspberry Pi, audio/DAC HATs and suitable distros/images.

And had all your posts not been questions or shit-posts, with at least two of them emphasizing that it was most important that this worked with TIDAL for streaming I think there'd be more sympathy or desire to help. And if your interest was in helping then your 3TB of FLACs would be more than enough to test with and TIDAL would be pretty much irrelevant in terms of evaluating performance/behavior of the board until the basics were working.

Part of understanding the lay of the land is understanding what gets people upset. This is a site where members often share tremendous deals with one another because there is a sense of community and a feeling that the offers will be appreciated. What ends up happening, though, is that people who have no interest in participating in the community end up asking for these deals, which is upsetting to participating members of the community who try to shape the place into what it is. There are still random users who sign up for this site just to ask for Roon discount codes, even though codes haven't been available for a very long time. Nobody is saying that you have to have x number of posts or that you need to participate in every thread, but they are asking that you not sign up for the site just to get exclusive access to a yet-to-be-released product, especially at the expense of someone else who participates in the community. None of us know what your intentions are, but if you still want to be part of this site then it is on you to show that you are here for more than just a freebie.

In regards to getting Tidal working, there is a setting in Volumio and Rune to set up UPnP. You should be able to stream Tidal from your phone using a UPnP DLNA streamer app like iPeng for iOS.

My shit post are just questions because I'm not the expert. I don't have shit to say about this board because I don't have one. Never heard anything like it. MIchael didn't have and prerequisites for grabbing a board. I was happy to wait and buy one and contribute my thoughts about it. I can't sit there and talk shop about the engineering behind the thing...sorry. Isn't that what these forums are all about? People learning? A place where a person can ask specific questions and people who know what they are talking about can answer them? You don't think I've spent a fair amount of time reading about this. I get it a little bit, but everything is so specific with these things it's hard to find all my information in one place. So I do some reading watch some videos and then ask what a thought was a friendly group of people for advice?

I completely understand. Thanks for the tip and your kind explanation of the lay of the land.
