With professional grade sound cards, ASIO drivers used to be the best option for low latency audio, a lot of effort went into the drivers- but with lower-end cards, the drivers often negated this, being either crappy or just a wrapper. I know latency isn't really an issue for playback, but eh.. expensive pro cards often had slightly more reliable drivers, as people expected ASIO to be used for critical stuff.

WSAPI really is an attempt to do more of the right thing in the unloved Windows sound world, so it's certainly worth trying, if you have good drivers and support. It addresses some of the problems that ASIO originally tried to solve, but is more "official". I'd certainly be trying to use it where support worked well, as you will find it probably becomes less hassle moving forward.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Wasapi in Foobar is working reliably for me so I can see no obvious reason to switch.

FWIW, probably my mind is playing games with me. But I'm also liking Wasapi (push) currently better than ASIO and other options with fb2k.

(For some reason, my crap-ola HD600 specialized combovulation eq seems to sound better this way as well).

    0% between Wasapi and Asio.

Personally, I wasn't thinking about imaginary quality improvements in the digital domain, just a simpler, cleaner setup with less crap to wrestle.
