Looks like HE-K and HE-400 had babies.

LOLOLOLOL. I think you hit the nail on the head! Pefectly. Sounds like HEK and HE400S morphed into one. CSDs in a bit. There is a peak at 8kHz, but I don't hear much sibilance. I didn't notice it. (The PM-2 has a similar peak, but I can hear that one. and HE400S peak is more noticeable as well.) Would be interesting to see ringing on CSD. It could be that I can't hear shit because I've been sick from food poisoning. Then again @Hands didn't mention this either (from his limited exposure).

Not horrible bad by any means, but would like to see better. The HEK distortion measurements were like OMG good.

    Yes.

Hm, looks interesting...I'll have to see if I can get my hands on them to try them out. You can never have too many orthos*.

*unless you have brittle bones disease, then you should get rid of them ASAP.

I definitely want to listen to these. Tyll definitely enjoys the HEK, so hopefully these are pretty good too.

Their on-ear can is supposed to be something like $3,000, that's fantastic and so much closer to affortable!

Reflexively read that as HKD and still thought it was pricey.

Is there a reason why Abyss' audio thingies cost so much?

The headband is actually made of depleted uranium, expensive stuff.
Not sure what costs so much money in em, I don't think they use gold traced diaphragms like HE-6 and Orpheus, and they only have magnets on one side. The housing seems pretty simple, but I've only seen pictures of them.

the magnets are custom made to very specific specifications, which is a major part of the cost

another is the f'ing $1200(?) cables they include with it

and the extremely high quality leather case

    and the fully machined chassis

really you're not getting THAT bad of a deal when you think about it, its just a question of whether or not all the shit they include is necessary/desirable...

at least they offer the AB-1266 lite now, lets you shave ~1k off by leaving out the leather case and a few cables/adapters
