A buddy of mine forwarded me a link to this POS. You know the hype is strong when my non audio friends are forwarding me links... I guess like lots of other areas people want that magic quick fix.

I told him if he wanted everything to sound better he should save his $99 and go buy some 650s when they go on sale for $300.

Clearly their overlord/parent company has deep pockets to hire so many shills.

Yeah I could see some poor sucker buying this when they would be better off with a FIIO or some other maker.

Edit: then again it's only $100 so it's probably a fair price for the produce; plus it does have these features that you don't see in a FIIO

This is known as "paying a bunch of money for a PR company."

Don't worry, they've already called in their favors with their pet editors on this product. You won't see it again unless it is stunningly good, or if they begin placing advertising.

(Oddly enough, we've had more than our share of big-name articles, mentions, etc, (Popular Science, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Fast Company, Wired, Engadget, Gizmodo, etc...) but we don't have a big-$ PR company. I expect most editors are amused enough by our name to cover us.)

I really need to write a book on marketing.

I'd pay 10x extra for an ARC so I can have my marketing team read it.

Yeah. I needed something to do this year, so a marketing book it is. Something like:

"Lost in the Crowd: How You (and Your Agency) Foster Anonymity—and What You Can Do About It"

    or

"2x4 to the Forehead: And Now That We Have Your Attention, Let's Talk About What We Do"

    or just

"Beating Your Head Against the Wall: Lessons from Working with Clients for 20 Years in the Marketing Biz"

I have worked with companies that literally have the ONLY product that does a particular job, and managed to screw up the marketing so badly that nobody got the point that "If you want to do X, you HAVE to buy our Y." This is what worrying about being on-brand and focus groups gets you.

You know it's bad when LITERALLY the first question you hear in a meeting is, "What are our competitors doing, and how can we do it better?" Wrong question. And a wrong question can only lead to more wrong answers.

Bottom line: benchmarking against the competition and playing a game of follow-the-leader will only get you one place: to true commodity status. Like industrial soap. Where a $0.0001/oz difference means sale or no sale. No thank you.

We should talk on the phone. I have some stories about big company marketing that would make you giggle. What do you do when your brand is in the most valuable top 5 in the world? Continue to hire people without product marketing experience!
