Here I am a week late in noticing Tyll's SBAF feature at innerfidelity, but probably still ahead of a few old duffers....at least I hope so...

    http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/changstar-dead-long-live-sbaf

I like innerfidelity a lot. I can't afford most of the stuff they discuss but my limited experience of several tested and featured items I've owned or tried out suggests to me that beyond the measurements and in the subjective descriptions and assessments there is genuinely well informed comment such that the opinions expressed are very, very credible. Except for the reports from trade shows lol.

Anyway I think it's great that a small offbeat site like innerfidelity gets some mentions and good feeling on a big, important place like sbaf....oh, hang on.....yeah...the other way around....for now...watch out Mr Hertsens lol.

My very favourite part of the innerfidelity piece on sbaf is the comments section where charming, happy-go-lucky, socially skilled, liberally minded persons like xnor, TheAudioGuild & co bitch like hell how it is all so unfair at sbaf. I don't know who at sbaf said what or when to these persons but I'd just like to thank you and to wish you well and please don't stop.

The annoying thing about the comments I see on Innerfidelity is that there is almost always some objective evangelist saying that some amp is totally unnecessary and to just get an O2.

LOL. Wait until you go on reddit. @OJneg is actually the mod of the headphone subreddit, I don't know how he stays sane.

Why would anyone actually buy the O2 not in the combo? It has batteries...

ROFL at the guy claiming that saying the HD 800 inner plastic piece just happens to look like the Black Sun of the SS is racist against Germans.

Remove spam. Avoid 90% of threads. Post dank memes in the good ones. Laugh at minions telling me that PortaPro w/ PEQ is identical to HD800. Close window and log onto SBAF.

    All in a days work.

The comments on that article got me a little riled up, but then I realised, who cares? I like that Tyll likes the crowd here enough to write about the place, and the ones whining in the forum (especially EDDY) are the ones who don't/can't participate anyway.
r/headphones, like every other place on the internet, believes it is right & best. It gets old fast.

I think I'm at least partially responsible for some of the Koss=HD800 stuff he he he

    See http://www.head-fi.org/t/638757/kos...r-in-all-the-hidden-gem-hype/435#post_9812384

    In mitigation I did state:

"After the initial shock it's a good idea to go to headphone dot com and look at the other measurements such as the 50Hz Square Wave Response so you don't start imagining that the KSC75 really is as good as the high end Sennheisers, and doing so helps avoid getting fixated on the idea that any single measurement can adequately describe a headphone."

and also later in the same thread posted http://www.head-fi.org/t/638757/kos...r-in-all-the-hidden-gem-hype/165#post_9548893

However it's Head-Fi so one graph rules them all and a gazillion teen hormones trumps reason every time.

Middle-age hormones can trump the teen ones!

They can also be very self-destructive.

Of course, I'm past all that now! |\/|

I just totally avoid that subreddit, as much as i love headphones. Too many O2 fanatics, and worship of new gear. Every day the top post is "look what showed up in the mail.jpg" and a picture of HD650 sitting on an O2. No meaningful discussion or information.

I've tried to get most of the smart/interesting folks on board here (keanex, ninjapirate, etc.) Most experienced folks migrate from the commons (/r/headphones, Head-Fi) on their own eventually.

/r/headphones can be tiring after awhile. Most posts are about low / mid-fi gear. The rest are self congratulatory pictures of low / mid fi gear they just bought.

I used to contribute on reddit, but after my schiit megastack picture went into the double digits negative karma for a few hours while the college students downvoted me, I kinda gave up contributing over there. It's okay for everyone to post their odacs, but I can't post my new gear because it's not built by a hardcore objectivist? Now I just lurk, and rarely at that. I'd love to help people with gear advice, but everyone want $100 stuff, and 99% of them by m50x's anyways.

Yeah. I've received some nice comments over there on my DIY projects, but I'm not as compelled to participate in that community as I once was. The typical reddit anti-eliteism is present in the headphones community. Everything sounds like everything else and the like.

I quit posting on r/headphones after the HD 558 is better than the HD 600 thread where it turned out the guy wasn't amping it and then on reddit altogether after they banned Fatpeoplehate. I still see tons of "You don't need an amp for AKG K7whatever/HD 600/800/LCD2s" and glorification of low-fi gear like Grados lurking. Now I read AskHistorians and accounts of daily life in communist Eastern Europe.
