Gave these a try, so far so good. Using coffee filters while waiting for my stands.

I am imagining the following explanation "you see, I NEED to lean back in my chair for optimal sound, since I don't have stands to lift the speakers to ear level..."

He has to lower his chair after every couple pots of coffee.

I've had these for little over a week. Still using my awesome rubberized coffee-stands. Desk is centered in a 7m wide by 5m deep room. Using +2 LF and -2 HF at the back.

    Impressions so far:
    + Good stage
    + Large sweet-spot
+ Produces bass at med/high volumes
+ Can show my neighbors who's boss
    + Decent resolution
    - Bass is too boomy, might be room and or placement issue. Can't help feeling a front ported design would help.
    - Something seems a little off tonality wise, can't put my finger on it. Do these have slight dip in the mids?

You might be getting desk reflections since they're so far back on your desk.

May I suggest bringing that LF trim back to 0? Certainly isn't doing it any favours if it's boomy right now. I personally have both left untouched at 0, they otherwise sound like they're deviating from neutral.

You could give this DSP correction a try.

Hmm, I tend to lean forward when I'm at the computer and it feels like they right in my face. Would it help if I place them higher?

My room is quite large and I felt it was +2 or too little bass. I'll play more around with this. The -2 HF definitely helped tonality wise.
How does that DSP thingy work? Will it EQ all my outgoing audio, foobar, spotify, youtube etc?

If you use it on EqualizerAPO it will. Only downside with EQAPO is it needs to use DS for systemwide EQ so you can't use exclusive modes like WASAPI and ASIO.

Decided to explore further within the realm of "studio monitors". Gonna try to get my hands on, Neumann KH120, Genelec M040, Dynadio BM Compact, Presonus Sceptre S6. Might do an epic 4-way review and keep the ones i like most, we'll see.

Also interested in KS Digital C5 and Mackie HR624 for shits and giggles, but I don't see a way to audition them.

I also had to bring down the HF on my monitors. Do you have a sub? I would consider sending the LF to the sub. A 5" driver may have some difficulty doing a good job in the bass region.

For equalization, the mini-DSP stuff proved out pretty useful. It's stand alone and keeps settings even after recycling power. It is also easy to hide and probably about the same form factor as the Schiit DAC/Amp you have there. I don't have a computer in my bedroom, so a stand alone solution was highly desirable.

It comes with a wide range of options and equalizer settings. It can do cross-over duties and is flexible in the type of filters to use. Highly recommended.

No i don't. Can't really go the sub route because I live in an apartment. I'm probably the worst neighbor already. I'm afraid if I buy a sub, It'll just say poof, and I burst into flames

Thanks, Mr.Measurbator. I'll read into the mini-DSP stuff.

Just got my pair, as written before they hiss but can't hear it when playing, no matter what volume. I tried the m51 digital volume at first but I ended up driving them with the Taurus. Other than a pair of logitech ones, I have no experience of speakers but so far I'm pretty happy with the decision.

A question: I just bought a second hand lyr2, now, is it possible it isn't powerful enough to drive the jbls? difference between the schiit and the taurus (both rca) it's day and night. Any suggestion?

The JBLs are self-powered, 40W each (tweeter and woofer) bi-amped. Maybe there's something wrong with the preamp in the Lyr?

It's possible. My Lyr 2 preamp is also problematic.

Not really. The preamp on my Lyr 2 is only mono.

I highly recommend the 305's. I also have the LSR310 sub that can be added to the set. The sub is not needed, but does add to the quality of the sound. I use an Oppo HA-1 as a pre-amp for them.
