I had a great time today at the meet. It was nice to finally put some names to faces, everyone was quite friendly in person. There was lots of impressive gear and I had a lot of fun listening, especially to headphone mods.

A perfectly lovely afternoon. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible.

As always, Jason showed up with cool new schiit.

Thanks to Bill-P for the use of his Andromedas. Nice to finally hear what all the fuss is about

Fun to commiserate with ringingears about being by far the oldest guys in the room.

Glad i got to hear this.
I was not able to discern any differences from my mkiv in meet conditions. Maybe it was a little less hard sounding and not as hard hitting which could be the RCA tubes. I would consider this just right because I think the EH2a3 tubes i use are a notch too hard. I thought the staging was going to be zds size I think it's about the same as the mkiv. Slightly on the thinner diffuse side of amps overall. Has the usual big stage that EC amps are known for.

    DNA's table SFCD1 > Stellaris w/ EML 2a3 Grids
Sounded like a torpedo 3 on steroids + pcp imo. Not the first time I felt this way. Not super familiar with the sfcd1 but ultra analog sfd1 has good staging ime. Probably the fullest meatiest sound you'll get. If you like in your face presentation, this thing engages hard.

And finally, the best sounding rig at the meet ;)
It wasn't as offensive as i thought....
It's like listening to nothing but mids, no attack, and no details. That probably describes the o2 tho.

Hey guys, great to see you all...but remember, the only thing there was a Vidar. No other products were shown. Thanks for understanding.

How was the Vidar? Why does the production model run hotter than the pre-production units?

DNA Stellaris. Lays on the thickness, but not the expense of of detail or resolution. I could listen to this all day with a bourbon in hand. I'd definitely have one if not for kids.

I brought some big speaker cables for @brencho to check out. If sold, they would be priced near $4000.

@n3rdling finally brought a capable system for proper SR-007 vs DIY-Orpheus showdown. DIY-Orpheus wins. I believe that all present concurred. BTW, there was some really amazing stuff at this meet.

Schiit brought the Vidar to the meet, along with special black edition chassis. Tried to the SUSVARA with the Vidar. Takes the SUSVARA to a completely new level. The headamps sound soft in comparison. I'll ask Jason to get in this in to compare to other amps for speakers. My impressions where of a neutral amp, extremely powerful with vice like grip on the drivers, and with deep staging and sense of space. I think 99% of people will need only one. But I know that people will buy two because "balanced is better".

This was a personal favorite setup. 45 globes in a 445. PC --ethernet--> Rednet --SPDIF--> Gungnir Multibit--chipout-->Freya--445--Utopia. Glorious mids and treble!

WTH? I didn't even bring my ZX2. I think there was even another one not shown here. Andromeda + ZX2 seems very popular FOTM FOTY with you SBAF guys.

AZ with the PMx2. A really nice full-bodied smooth ortho sound. No tonal screwiness - just right. Yes, he fixed the "PM-1 green poo / red poo" distortion on those drivers.

More modest setups. On the left is a modified (with a 4 pin XLR jack) Musical Fidelity X-A1. @LFF's had it for a long time for good reason. I was just too dumb to realize how good sounding it's been for the last ten years. Those looking for a good solid state amp could buy one of these for fairly cheap. You'd need to wire a up speaker terminal to 1/4 phono or 4-pin XLR adapter.

On the right is @Ringingears BW and Gungnir Multibit DS. Yeah, it's possible to keep it simple and just listen to music instead of equipment.

BTW, for those who do not know. Always always always drop by @LFF's table whenever he shows up to a meet. He has the best recordings, some secret stuff, some not, all of which he has remastered. These tracks are 500% better, in some cases 2000% better than the HiRes DSD DXD garbage that is commonly found on HDTracks or recent remasters. It's not about the gear, it's not about the technology, it's really about the quality of the music and the quality of the recordings.

@Bill-P: Get rid of that 25th anniversary Paul Simon Graceland. It's horribly crushed with no dynamic range. The guy who did that remaster should have been shot.

How'd you like the Stellaris with the mesh plates vs the RCA?
