There are forces in the universe trying to make this happen. Obviously the situation between the West and Russia isn't making this any easier. That's all I can say.

Yep. That order was hassle-free and fast.
The usual notice: NBMs are out of stock at the moment (ETA: end of November); 220V only.
Regarding ZD Micro, I know of at least one place with a brand new unit in stock.

Are there sanely-priced alternative tubes that would upgrade the sound a bit, do you think?

Nope. Those Russian tubes are specific. Not too different from the ZDS power tubes.

Look at it this way: No improvement necessary. Already sounds the best. You get to enjoy music without listening to tubes.

Thanks to SBAF's resident Han Solo, one of these is on its way to me in Tatooine. Hopefully the empire does not intercept it.

This picture isn't great, but it looks a lot like a 1/4 inch jack socket labelled "power", and a power switch labelled "headphone" - am I seeing things?

Hahahaha. In the picture of the actual unit being sent to me, shown in the pic below, the switch and the socket appear unlabeled.

Definitely. I might even have it do a NY SBAF mini-loaner tour leading into or out of the meet.

The empire just intercepted my NBM on its way to the cargo hold.

    Motherfuckers.

It doesn't seem appropriate to "like" this, as it is clearly not OK- but screw that Palpatine dude, srsly.

The amp definitely looks cool in a 70s kind of way.

So, how does this compared to a Shiit Jot with HD 650s and can I get one smuggled out of Russia to Australia? i'll need to get a step down transformer though, as the votages here can range from 230v-250v (I haven't checked what the voltages out of my outlets are)

    Home Page:
I've owned both and can say they both sound great with 650s, but the NBM is a different sound. Not as fast as the Jot, not as controlled in the bass. Soundstage on the NBM might be better tho, and it has other very positive attributes. No warranty, tho :)

I think there's someone who is heroicly trying to export these out of Russia on a 1-off basis with variable success. Read the backthread there for details on who/what.

The NBM will not need a transformer as Russia operates on similar voltages to Australia.

Ask @t3hwx9 if you want one.
Currently they are out of stock.

Postage is painful as their "aviation safety" is quite paranoid even after customs have done their thing.
Mine has been knocked back once already and I'm on the second try.

..mine appears to have cleared UK customs - though we shipped it surface. Fingers crossed.

Well, it has been a funny three days. Before the weekend, the tubiest thing that I owned was a Vali 2 (which is bloody brilliant, incidentally).

Then I accidentally a rather killer used deal on a British made amp that I had been eyeing up for ages... so good that I couldn't pass it up. Then.. the planets came right, and Captain Solo came through for me, and there was a surprisingly small box waiting by my desk. So now, I have an embarrassment of riches. Here's a slightly crappy, rushed picture of international detente:

Doubtless I will be able to take a better one at a later point. Anyway- very exciting. Unlike the HP8, the valves and caps probably don't have any hours on them, and so it might change somewhat- but I can say that it certainly doesn't suck.

Edit: With the lights out, it's less dangerous:
