LCD-2 came in the mail. How do I tell which version I have?

What you need is a side-by-side comparison. I think the Fazor does make the imaging more precise, but that might be the only improvement I heard. Who knows, maybe the new Fazor version drivers are simply inferior and it's not related to the Fazor tech. Some of the old LCD2s are supposed to sound much better than others, so ideally you'd need way more than 2 headphones.

I thought that was a big reason for CS and SBAF: Less hype, more honest impressions. Better sense of community. When there's not a lot of talk about certain products on here, it's more often than not that people simply don't care rather than not knowing about it.

This forum seems to have a better signal to noise ratio then HF so far I'm liking it.

If I don't like LCD-2 I get I will just sell them and maybe try a different version down the line.

I'm also curious about the Nighthawks. Maybe I will pick up some of those.

quit buying crappy phones & upgrade your chain with that coin. You've got the only phone you'll ever need in the 650. But the asgard2 & little dot iii aren't going to get you "there".

But a big improvement with the new pads, and the discontinued original version (only aesthetic difference) are going for much cheaper now.

Even if I bought a $5,000 amp someone on the forums would chime in and say they tried it but it wasn't enough to get them "there"

This forum is not like other forums.
When people here say an amp is good, they can usually qualify it (apart from the price), and they're usually reasonable about it.

    oh plot thickens!

So I have the last model before the Fazors. People claim the non-Fazor sound better so I will find out when my damn cable gets here.

Ok so the cable finally got here today.

First impressions wow these take a ton of power. First can to make me use the high gain switch on my amp.

So far very much seem a side-grade to the 650.

Yeah, its one of many headphone the hype trainers proclaimed as the "super HD650". And yet again its a side grade for a higher price tag...

Doesn't make it a bad headphone, its actually a headphone I'd enjoy too...

The biggest difference I notice is in voice. I have never heard voices sound so lush.

The LCD-2 just might be the ultimate ASMR machine. Very soothing.

The LCD-2 was extremely overhyped on Head-fi when it came out. I fell victim to the call that they were beefed up HD650s with better everything and bought a pair of late rev 1 cans. The only way they best my modded HD650s is in the midrange. Vocals are really nice with them, I will say that. Other than that, @ButtUglyJeff hit the nail on the head as far as my sentiments go: definite sidegrade to the 650s.

Yeah, LCD-2 was quite hyped on HF. But I don't think it was all that bad when we were talking about pre-fazors. Maybe there are some real lemons out there, but I'm still very, very happy with my 2.1s. I'm not really a fan of warm mid-bass and like good subs a lot. That's one of the reasons I sold my 650 after getting these. And I had both for about a year for comparison, in the end there wasn't a shade of doubt for me sticking with the Audeze.

The old ones have the silly wooden parts for the cables, but it hasn't broken yet, after years of life in the rough and dry Finnish winters. I bought Audezes newer leather pads that made them more comfy and brought out the bass nicely vs the too shallow 2010-pads.

I should have prefaced my earlier post by saying I've not heard any other LCD-2 headphones beside my own. The time period mine came from was right around the time Audeze was first having driver problems, so take what I said with a grain of salt. Glad you like your rev 2.1. I do still wonder how the rev 2 sounds compared to my late rev 1 pair. I got mine literally 3 weeks before the rev 2 rolled out.

The Fazors I have heard were horriiible. I would not pay more than 50$ for these. Good advice is to stay away.
Regular LCD-2 is not competing with top 5 headphones for my tastes, but I hear why some like these.
I can dig dark if its done well.
Seriously look into some LFF Slants, does most things better than probably any LCD, only in sub bass LCD-2 is cleaner and more linear.

I googled "LFF Slant" looking for a place to see how much they cost and such but all I see is threads of people discussing them. Doesn't give me much faith when there is no place to buy them I see.

Luckily I got the very last non-Fazor version of the LCD-2.

Years ago I decided the Senn 580-650 series with a solid DAC/amp was good enough for me and I wasn't going to chase perfection anymore. I only started buying new gear because after 10 years of daily use my stuff started falling apart.

That being said I was always curious about Audeze, I didn't expect them to blow away the HD650 so I'm not really disappointed.

People in other threads have already said if the LCD-2 isn't an upgrade then its because I need a better amp. Meh, I could go down the rabbit hole and buy some $1,000+ amp but I doubt I will
