At its current state (v.4), the board is actually pretty accessible to just about anyone. Give it a shot! As always - casing will prove to be the hardest part.

I didn't mean to imply anything about Soekris, just with the extremely high price for what you get, flowery language, and lack of technical details, I'm a bit skeptical is all.

I'd be more convinced if it didn't look like someone arbitrarily drew graphs. :) Let me see the real deal!

Clarification: that looks like a group buy for a competed dac with integrated lehmann amp for people in/near singapore. Looks cool, but approx 1250 USD with an ocean to cross...

The board when you add resistors used in an r2r dac is expensive though. Parts alone would be around $700 plus resistors. And i see the firewall inside another $400 plus the Chassis. Some profit has to be made I guess. It all depends on how much you believe in certain quality parts making a difference but whatever it is, the sound is quite amazing.

It's very considerate of them to include a firewall, nice feature to have as standard on a DAC made of wood and with NO FUSES...

By coincidence, I got the opportunity to hear this DAC yesterday (I was auditioning something else, and the dealer had a used one).

While it did retain some of the "R2R magic", on many tracks I tried there was... something... a bit grating or digital in the upper mids / lower treble.
(I found myself reaching for the 'skip track' button, or turning the volume down, even during my short standard audition playlist. Neither is a good sign. It means the subconscious already figured out it doesn't like it, long before the conscious brain realizes or tries to justify WHY it doesn't like it.)

If I had to guess at the cause, I would say Lessloss used the stock Soekris oversampling filters, which don't seem to be well regarded. It would be interesting to try it with a good upsampling player (PC/Mac).

Summary: at the price (£5k new RRP) it is a really bad joke.

@donunus curious, did you already buy it?
If not, but you like this type of sound, might be worth looking into the higher end Soekris units and Google for better filter options that you can install yourself. Or just buy some other good R2R like the Gungnir Multibit for example. Even Modi Multibit would beat this IMHO.

LessLoss is the the most amazing snake oil producer on the planet as far as I am concerned. Their claims are quite entertaining to read, but who would spend money on their products?

well, did you notice how they explain a ton of stuff and then finally come up with this line:
"Just to make sure you know what an SD card is, it stands for Secure Digital and looks like this: <image of an SD Card>"

Gee, thanks. I was going to spend $91k and plug my toothbrush in

We should check if @Torq can get his hands on auditioning one for his LaY... Maybe he can get four to audition for a discount. Seriously, though, this is worse than the Tera Player hack courtesy of the motorcycle repairer, who at one point jacked the prices up to 10K for a single unit.

Hardwoods from enchanted (on the verge of distinction) forest products ... sigh.

When we have a floating point sample format to decrease quantization rounding errors, and a viable reconstruction algorithm that can be implemented in hardware, then my interest in loss-less will be renewed.
