I wish I could offer some advice on your screw situation, however, (due to the age of the wood cups and their cracking, expanding, etc.) pretty much all the screws on my Code-X were loose before the mod. I actually used some Loctite on them during the install of the new headband to insure that they did not come loose again! Best of luck to you!

Also, if you end up stripping / drilling out the screws take detailed measurements of them before you throw them away. That way you can use a website like McMaster-Carr to get pretty much any size screw that exists in the world. I have done this many times with headphones in the past. Exact measurements of the screw are key though!

@Ray apparently the experiment moving toward Clear or LCD2C didn't work out well-
and you wished to return to LFF modded planars? what amp is in play now?

Though not as pretty as a true Code-X, my LFF Code-5LE has arrived and sounds fantastic. I was able to source a 5LE off HF a few months back and the magic Luis infused into these cans is remarkable.

There's not a genre I've thrown at them that has not been served well, and while my re-acquired CTH handles them nicely, there's some crazy disco-boogie happening with the Saga / Vidar; the power amp yielding a more open, less forward soundstage, better clarity, and more nuanced dynamics.

You should be a f'ing believer. The synergy with Saga > Vidar is bonkers (or, even better as @jexby found out, AF > Vidar).

I'm tempted to throw my ZDS in front of the Vidar.

This is why a proper EC preamp would be fantastic.

Wonder how the F5T v2 or v3 monos would fare vs the vidar with the 6/5LE. FWIW I wasnt in love with the GFA-555 with the LFF cans despite similar-ish specs vs vidar (both class AB / same output power ballpark).

Might have to sell of a ton of gear and fire up the soldering iron next season.

Aside from a the few comments I've read from @brencho, anyone have any feedback on how the Code-X pairs with the AF without a power amp?

indeed, had @zerodeefex Code-X on loan in the past, and might steal them in future.
when Code-X was in Af, the treble and detail were present. no mids suck out or anything.
but the bass was prerry anemic, lacked slam. not tight either.
also- the sound stage collapsed inward, and was more tunneled.. like a semi closed headphone.

the easy winner was the Code-X with Vidar, where bass slam was outstanding, everything opened up spatially and it sounded like a TOTL headphone again instead of some below average Ether or Aeon.

    Copy.

I've been enjoying the Saga/Vidar rig since taking delivery from Luis, though I'm getting a hint of noise/buzzing that's increasingly becoming more annoying. When music is playing, it's mostly a non-issue, but on quiet sections it's clearly audible. When I switched out the Saga for the ZDS (Lo-out), it became ever more apparent, and the added gain meant little travel on the pot. Apart from that, sounded quite good.

Was hoping maybe the AF could be a one-box solution, but giving up the bass quality/quantity will be a no-go.

For the buzzing/noise, make sure the source, saga, and vidar are all plugged into to same power strip/surge protector. I had the same issue with my saga and amps for a long time and it drove me crazy until I read that advice somewhere and tried it. Dead silence since.
