I am very excited about this too. But I am also ready to be less impressed than anticipated.

Saga + '40s JAN Sylvania + Jotunheim PR leaves little to be desired.
This combo has great microdynamics, and the treble is very addicting. I can also use the Jot alone when I feel like listening to pop/metal etc.

I really wonder if Lyr 3 is more "open" than the above combo. I really hope it is better, so I can have 1 box instead of 2. Transporting the Sagaheim isn't as easy as it seems.

    THIS. People, this!

Lyr 3 only has one power switch, so it is safe to say no to this question.
But this is a really good point. Looks like the multibit module is not for me. Sometimes I leave the Modi Multibit on and power down the Jot. Cold Jot is tolerable, but not cold Modi Multibit.

So as a total tube newb, what are the appreciable differences between the Russian 6N8S (NOS) and Tung-Sol 6SN7 (New) options? I'd be using with HD6x0 and LCD2C.

I ordered mine with the new production Tung-Sols, I've used them in other gear and they're good.

Based on what you've heard, would you speculate that this dichotomy holds true for planars in general, or is this more a statement of the synergy between Rag and PM-3 (and HE-6 for power delivery purposes)? For example, which amp would you prefer with, say, an LCD-2 or HE-500?

Any thoughts on how this would compare to Black Widow (for planars)?

I hate to shoot Schiit in the foot with this, but let's break things down...

Lyr 3 + Russian nos tube = normal price
    Lyr 3 + Tung-Sol new tube = add $25

Get the Russian 6N8S (NOS) tube, and order the Tung-Sol 6SN7 separately. It's pretty much the same price, and you get 2 tubes you can roll right off the bat.

I've been waiting for this since Marvy/purr1n , not sure what's up with that but.., hinted at it a while ago.

Im trying to limit boxes somewhat because we only have so many plugs we can use. Regardless, Im currently running a Magni 3 and a Modi Multibit, I've held off on a Eitr to see what was announced and if I really needed one.

So options are get the Lyr3 and an eitr...stop

Find a nice used gen 5 Bifrost Multibit, get a lyr 3 sell everything else. So boxes now.

Is a Lyr3 with a Bifrost Multibit worth it or would just sticking with the Modi Multibit/Eitr Lyr 3 setup be fine.

Ill be running AKG K7xxs and Im looking for a nice pair of 650s when I get the extra cash. Maybe something a bit more expensive down the road a ways, not sure what yet. Atticus or Eikon would be nice but probably not in the budget...maybe not ever.

Or my preference, anodize. However, DIY would remove the labels and logos.

Have you or anyone else heard Lyr 3 with LISST? I mostly use tube amps (Valhalla 2 and EC ZDT Jr on order running off of Eitr/Modi Multibit), but always like to keep a good solid state around for times when I don't want to wait for tube warm up, want to use planars (LCD2C), or just want a little less laid back and more energetic mood. Right now I have Magni 3 for that and was looking at SS upgrades like Jot, THX AAA, LC, etc. I've always been interested in trying hybrid tubes and the idea of Lyr 3 adding that tube option as well as also being turned into SS with LISST (with just one easy tube swap) is really intriguing. I'm curious how Lyr 3 with LISST would stack up against Jot and THX AAA, and if using LISST would bring that extra zip and crispiness?

At least for us international customers, that single extra tube makes $20 difference in shipping fee.o_O

Easy fix - Move to the US.

Or, order it as a separate item in your Lyr 3 order, and they shouldn't charge you anything extra for shipping.

RCA grey glass old stock can be found for dirt cheap. They might have the sound that you are looking for.

Maybe not because there are so time consuming to do and requires that I have all amps handy. I will take a stab, but leave the MCHT out because evidently the pre-production version that I had does not sound like the production version:

Bass Quality (slam, articulation, clarity, grip)
    Jot (balanced)
    Lyr 3
    Valhalla 2
    <gap>
    ZDT Jr

Microdynamics (opposite of flat and boring)
    ZDT Jr
    Lyr 3 = Valhalla 2
    Jot

    Microdetail
    Too close to call

    Clarity (mids on up)
    Lyr 3
    Jot
    ZDT Jr
    Valhalla 2

Attack / speed / transients (fast to med)
    Jot
    Lyr 3 = Valhalla 2
ZDT Jr. (not slow by any means)

Treble harmonics / overtones / timbre
    ZDT Jr.
    Lyr 3
    Jot
Valhalla 2 (by no means bad)

PM-3 actually needs a lot of power to come alive. So does HE-500. LCD-2 and HE-560 don't seem to require this, so I'd pair the latter two with Lyr 3.

I do not like planars from the BW.

Are you referring to the Oppo PM-3?

@purr1n , would your preference for Ragnarok over Lyr 3 for some planars also apply to the PMx2?

I would also love to hear @Audio Zenith ’s thoughts on the Lyr 3. Have you had a chance to hear this amp yet? Do you feel the PMx2 is neutral enough from this amp? Is there a specific tube you would recommend for it to achieve optimal synergy with the PMx2?
