Nono the canjam amps are part of their own line and will be priced in the 1.5ish to 2k price bracket (true to the cavalli pricing philosophy haha) this is based on the older cth amp that was DIY or some such

The Vali 2 wasn't and isn't even close to meeting the Ember II, everything Marvey said echo's how I heard it as well.
Both of Garage 1217 Amp I've owned beats the Vali 2 in clarity, microdynamics and Micro Detail. Regardless of the tube,

That said here's to hoping this proves to be a serious upgrade. Looking forward to hearing it

Too warm, bloated, too tubey, claustrophobic, very grainy. I have heard worse though. :)

Conundrum: I have a Vali 2. I will almost certainly replace it with this. Knowing Massdrop, this probably won't ship until Bucktember of 2018. What do?

LOL, I fell asleep drooling to HD650K* / MCTH / Modi Multibit last night**. I'd definitely go this route. Vali (laid-back) and Modi Multibit (dark) and HD650 might be too dark and laid back.

*KISS version which is slightly less bassy than stock.
**@CEE TEE wanted me to compare two final candidates.

    *That I could find anyway.

I can't believe how rabid people are over Massdrop stuff and threads...

But the MCTH is worthwhile! Sweet tube amp at an affordable price! More to come once I edit the post I tried to get in quickly with full thoughts...

You're deaf and have a mild form of online Asperger's or something. Just stop. I know you're addicted to peddling your shitty opinions but they're terrible.

I don't think I can purchase this without first seeing a photo of an attractive young woman using it in a sparsely decorated loft.

I dunno, I'd place the Ember and Starlight behind the Vali 2. The Starlight is dead and boring sounding. The Ember is what @Hands said, to the point where it just glosses over everything.

I've always refrained from directly shitting on Garage 1217 stuff, because they area small outfit, and I've wanted to see where they would go. But thanks to you, I've decided to stop my self-censorship. Now they can thank you for their sudden immediate 20% drop in sales.

    @Marvey or @Hands

Can you speak to using the Jotunheim as a preamp for this? Good/bad/ugly? I'd generally prefer to use a tube pre going into the Jotun but it's not an option here.

Unfortunately I'm not even convinced you know what these attributes mean, let alone are qualified to assess them.

I'm sorry it's come to this but I've had to make a guide on how to make any thread you post in 10x better:

I mean, unless those sound super good, that would just look too weird being hooked up to an amp.

I will love you forever if you do, and it would be super fun to test. :)

Yeah, the Ember I heard was light years behind the Vali 2. The Vali 2 makes the big boy amps toss and turn just a wee bit at night. The Ember was...an amp. It did things. Not particularly well.

I can't speak to that, but may I ask why you need a preamp for the MCTH?
