I didn't solder directly to the Sharc DSP pins, found a convenient place farther away. Can't find a good pic of it, sometime I'll open it and take one.

FYI, it's tiny SMD work. I used solder paste in a syringe, good flux, precision iron tip, etc!

Seems in hindsight, I picked the most difficult one of the multibit's to do!

Yes tiny. I have held off doing this after opening it up. Super tiny. When I am feeling more adventurous I may give it a go. But by then Schiit will have probably come out with their next upgrade. Maybe they will add i2s connections next. Are you listening Schiit?

My Pi3/ 502 dac Spdif is not sounding up to par for some reason. Computer running Daphile and right from CD player sounds much better. So something is off. Will be getting another 502 in a couple weeks to see if I have a problem, could be the Pi3. Don't know.
This little Modi Multibit does sound great to me. Thanks for your help Scott Kramer!

Met Jason Stoddard and crew this weekend. They are so friendly! It was very busy but managed to have a pretty good conversion, things like USB, connection standards, operating systems, board layout software, i2s, pi, ethernet, hdmi, eitr, the jotunheim, sbaf.

Just for fun and to break the ice I brought the i2s Moby, check it out:

Also got way in depth listening to the Yggdrasil, gun, mjolnir2, bifrost, vali2, val2, lyr2, HE6, HE1000, HD800, a few other and swapped around -- pretty enlightening to me!

Re: the 502, try piCore 3.20 audio (just released), avoid the pi3 wifi, try switching the RCA/BNC voltage header-- are you using good power straight into 502? Also check the AES XLR/BNC pins under the board... some people are getting short circuits (they are touching the pi USB housings), you can trim those back... I did that, they were very close.

#2 -- Useless but interesting side effects from the i2s Moby [Documentation]

Insert an FPGA FIFO reclocker *AFTER* the USB and *BEFORE* the DSP

USB MCLK not connected, new generated from the Kali

Experimental purposes only! No plans to run it this way. But it does sound good!

    New toys:

That pi GPIO (i2s/i2c/power & ground) isolator. To be sandwiched between the pi and a master or slave digital hat, or dac hat. Also a native DSD decoder, fits on the isolator as an option.

Starting with the worst case spdif/i2s (my hifiberry beta digi+pro, no onboard regulator or isolation) source using @Iancanada's isolator... even the valhalla2 does not cover up the improvement!

    :) Sooo... @schiit

Thinking back to AXPONA, while we were debating USB, i2s, misc... I asked you about the eitr, and you sorta waved your hand over everything (Yggdrasil/gun/etc)... were there G5 boards in all the DACs there?

    Short as possible i2s. piZEROW/digiPRO

Chimed in 'cause tried USB after being used to this... yep, might as will be wax buildup in ears and music weirdly stifled/chalky.

Time to lay out my own board tho... i2s/HDMI only pi hat, with the nice NDK clocks.

    (my poor-man's eitr lol)

Wow this is amazing, i was wishing there was a way i could connect my Modi Multibit to my Rpi3/Digi+PRO and use my coaxial SPDIF for my Eitr only. Do you have a pinout diagram chart on which wires from the desoldered RP5 points i need to connect to the Rpi GPIO points? I made a diagram from the notes on your paper but i have no idea where they would go on the RPI GPIO header. C78 acts as ground right?

Recommend not doing this today... it's from the era of figuring out the raspberry pi and bad schiit usb! You can get great sound with the opamp upgrades and using the Pi2AES through coax on these, and def not worth it as an extra connection-- the digi+pro is a bit flaky. Performance-wise, defeating the purpose by not using at least a Pi2AES i2s header out.

Also left off a key part on the other side of the board to allow it to select USB even with it not connected.

@zerodeefex maybe move this thread to you know where!
