I'm copy/pasting a FS listing I have on the HF forum here, because it seems to be slow to sell, and I know more of the members here can appreciate what I am selling. I've already dropped the price by $200 from what I originally wanted. Pictures in original thread. Mods: if i'm violating any rules by linking thread, please let me know and feel free to remove.

I am selling my rather rare, modified Eddie Current Super 7 headphone/efficient speaker amp. This amp uses 7 6SN7 type tubes. One driver and 6 paralleled output/power tubes. As much as I've loved it, I have replaced it with a new Trafomatic Head 2, which I find more versatile for my uses. Though I think this is better matched for the HD-800 and one of the better choices out there for it.

Upfront disclaimer: as pictured, the bolt that secures 1/4" jack is stripped out and will not stay on the jack. If using with strictly 1/4" connection, needlenose pliers are required to hold jack in place while inserting headphone plug. 4-pin XLR has no issue though. The 1/4" is otherwise fully functional, and can probably be replaced by a handy DIY'er.

This model is the second generation, with the Electraprint C-core output transformers. I have replaced the stock Solen interstage caps with Jantzen Silver, and replaced the tiny electrolytic feedback caps, with rather large, Jantzen Superior. The big Jantzen Superior caps are connected to board via DHC nucleotide OCC cable. This is an amp which really punches way above it's price class and offers excellent flexibility with tube rolling options. Comes with 8 used NOS tubes and 2 used, new production tubes. 4 RCA 6SN7, 2 Raytheon 6SN7GTA, 1 Sylvania Chrome dome 6SN7GTA, 1 Motorola 6SN7GT, and 2 new production Electro-Harmonix.

I will accept various forms of money orders, or personal checks, once cleared. I cannot use paypal, unfortunately. I do however have a long established feedback history and active in community. As well as recently having been entrusted with an HE-1000 loaner successfully by a vendor. I have no desire to risk my excellent feedback.

Price is $1100 or best offer, which includes shipping, as it's rather pricey for the weight. Sold for $1600 new with no tubes. To my knowledge I am the 3rd owner overall. Raw parts for Cap upgrade was about $250. No idea of value of tubes, so I may in fact be under pricing.

GLWS! I've yet to hear a S7 but I'm sure it still sounds fantastic even with the newer EC amps around.

Yeah, I figure there's a better audience here for it. It gets overlooked over there by other FOTM gear.

I would have been interested, but I will never purchase anything from folks I do not know, as great as their feedback is, if PayPal or another online payment system such as Amazon, is out of the equation. You are most likely great to deal with, and good luck with the sale!

Have you inquired about getting the 1/4" jack replaced? It looks like maybe it's PCB mounted but should be do-able.

I can vouch for him. I bought an SA-31 from him a couple years back and I think he triple-boxed it.

JWahl, I PM'ed you on HF and I'm still on the fence. But I'll let anyone that wants it cut ahead of me.

If you've had a chance to hear what you can get out of a further modded S7 (caps to your tastes, MisterRoger's regulator mod, and particular tube selection), you won't want to be on the fence.

Jesus using pillars to plug headphone sinto the jack every time sounds so bad.
Something you would do if you bought $10 equipment, not something going over a grand.

Yeah, I've admittedly been lazy in not getting that fixed. Mostly because I haven't wanted to mess with the headache of labelling the wires and resoldering. It's a bit trickier because of the tight space behind the jack between the opt's. And since I prefer using the 4-pin anyways, it hasn't been a priority.

    And Mr Sneis,

The Jack is free floating, connected with wires, held in place by a nut. I'm actually fairly certain this was your old S7. Still has the wood shim on the power transformer.

I'm really surprised it hasn't sold, especially since it has the ElectraPrint OPTs. These things go in cycles. For a while, ZD's went down in price to $1200. I bet a lot of people are kicking themselves now for not getting in on those deals.

If ElectraPrint OPTs, this was the first-run, pre-order version. Because this has the speaker switch and EC logo on front, isn't this the non-ElectraPrint version?

CEE TEE, If I remember correctly from the old threads, the first-run used Transcendar E-I core. But I think those were Purrrin's words, so he can probably clarify.

Kapanak, I can use Amazon Payments, or at least I have in the past. If you are seriously interested. Haven't used it in awhile so I'd probably have to renew the account. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Quoting purrin's old post from Head-Fi.

"The new S7 has the new C-core transformers which alter the sound a little bit. If you have other EC amps and are used to the EC sound, certain recognizable traits will no longer be there since the output transformers have a very large affect on the amp's sound - even more than tubes. (This is why I also recommend rolling transformers, because it's even more fun.)

The C-cores are less organic sounding. The older EI cores were slightly thicker in the bass and had a little treble bite (I am not implying a negative thing here.) The C-cores have a more neutral textured bass and better detail extraction overall. The highs are brighter, but also smoother. Overall, I feel the new C-cores get out of the way better than the EI-core. I had no issues with it sounding slightly brighter since the presentation was smoother. In any event, the brightness can be tamed with proper tube selection."

Wow, the amp has gotten around it seems. My memory sucks but if it was previously in my possession then the transformers were of the second run.

My Super 7 is Serial #18, has the logo on front and the newer C-Core transformers.

I have sold and then bought back the same EC amp. And will probably continue to do so...I underestimate how much I will miss them when I sell them.
