Along with most other songs on his "American IV" album - "I hung my head" always hit me.

Same theme, different genre, same emotional result.

From the forgotten realm of obscure Prog there is Kingston Wall. Of all the artists and bands I have heard this is one of the songs that makes me cry. f**k that guitar solo just started...

P.S. This is just the album version. Live this could sound ten times better.

It's a shame the sound is so terrible on this version, but he tells the story behind the song, which makes it far more impactful. Better recordings elsewhere, obviously, and seeing this song live is quite an experience.

These two tunes were the first I thought of. Nothing more moving than good ol' Yanni while you're high off the kite on magic mushrooms. There are plenty of good compositions of Yanni that stimulate the imagination.

There is this unique Tangerine Dream parody by Coil is good, too

This is Vangelis, I find this to be one of the most moving tunes, it's pretty exciting, dynamic. It's one of my faves for checking out unfamiliar sound systems

I'm not Christian, but wow... this could make me one.

    Here's Eva Cassidy's cover.

Screw the Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck's covers. They go all fancy and shit and destroy the spiritual essence of this song.
