I screencap'd the measurements from a Jude video:

In other news, I got these in today! I was one of the few that selected to get the headphones early without the Aeon case. To my surprise, Dan sent me them in the Ether case instead, and boy do they fit perfectly in the Ether case. Fit and finish of these is near flawless. Sound? Well, they sound open and remarkably balanced. Comfort? No complaints yet. Also, these are pretty inefficient. I'll definitely have to get a Schiit amp for them, because my computer won't get them loud enough for softer recordings.

I'll be updating later with pics and more in-depth thoughts.

    Later impressions below:

'A couple of things to note about the production version of the Aeon.

-Dan has told me that the production pads are the same depth, but are slightly stiffer, so don't compress as easily. I still worry about how much they will compress over time, as they do have a fair amount of clamp for isolation purposes.

-The tiny ports in the bottom of the production version are rectangular and flush against the black, flat part of the cups. This looks way better to me, and is only cosmetic, as confirmed by dan.

These are way more inefficient than I thought they would be. Must be a combination of that super low impedance and only 94db/mw. I was getting away with just using my computer's onboard sound with the PM3, Elear, and M1060, but the Aeon has me maxing the computer's onboard at around 90-100%. I'm sure at those ranges I'm getting some distortion. So with that said I don't feel comforable doing an all-out review on them just yet, and have ordered a Schiit Jotunheim with balanced dac.

I can describe what I hear and feel from them though.

Their comfort is a little less than what I expected given the early impressions. Nevertheless, they are extremely comfortable. I never quite get a 'hotspot' on my head for extended sessions (for reference, I get a hotspot at 45 minutes for both the Elear and M1060, and at 1 hour on the PM3.) With the Aeon, I moreso get a 'warm spot' that never quites get painful, but only mildly irritating. I wish the suspension strap was more tapered and wider like on the Hifiman HE-560 or 400i, which I find to distribute weight exceptionally well. The ear openings are large enough for me, but I do find that the very tips of my ears at times just barely-- and I mean just barely-- touch the soft fabric over the drivers. This is nitpicking at this point, but I would have liked to see slightly deeper pads for uncompromising comfort. I'm also interested at possible leather and/or memory foam variants in the future, although I know memory foam can seriously mess with audio quality and acoustic properties of the headphone.

Soundwise I won't comment on fine details, but I can say they are exceptionally balanced. There's a healthy amount of lower treble around 5-7khz which a lot of headphones lack, which renders many different kinds of percussion very well. The mid-upper treble is not over accentuated and I can't detect much of a standout peak around 10khz like there is with the Elear.

Bass wasn't as prominent as I thought looking at the harman boost on measurements, and remains nicely balanced. I'm glad Dan decided to include this tuning, as I feel the headphone has a decent amount of meat to its bones without being muddy. I'm sure the Jotunheim will add some more grunt down low, as my computer is probably being choked of power at this point. Usually amps tighten bass up and subjectively lessen bass quantity in headphones, but I doubt that will be the case here.

Midrange is smooth and cohesive, while throwing a decent image with good transient response. If anything I think there might be a slight lack of warmth around 3-400hz, but that might just be me coming from the Elear, PM3, and M1060, which are very 'thick' for a lack of a better word in that region. There is a slight bit of hollowness in the upper midrange compared to the PM3, but only slight. All-and-all, there isn't very much weirdness going on in the midrange which usually leads to closed-cup coloration. The headphone sounds clear and open as a result of a smooth and naturally warm midrange.'

Of course I have an amp, it's on the computer's motherboard. The headphone wouldn't make sound otherwise. Although the carbon fiber backing is quite tinky, it does make some sound when hit.

Interested to hear how you like these. Comparisons against the pm-3 would also be interesting.

Jot is a great choice Raven. I tried seven amps with the aeon and the jot was by far the budget king.

I had a choice between Fulla2 and Jotenheim w/dac for an all-in-one, and I knew back from the loaner program that the Jot didn't make too drastic of a difference to the sound compared to onboard, but I bought the Jot anyways with that knowledge. Funny how that works.

First shipment of these (with cases) is delayed again, per an email from Dan. Apparently the cases were left outside on a dock during a rain storm.

Some units will ship out this week.

"the c̶a̶s̶e̶s̶ *boxes* were left outside on a dock during a rain storm."
It'd be a real shame if all those nice leather cases were ruined

Let's revive the thread a bit, shall we?

I reckon there is not, but at least I must try. Has anyone here got their filthy hands on some Mr.S Alpha Dogs together with Aeon? Basically I could be able to say even what are they compared to HD650/6XX as I kinda know them compared to ADs.

The thing is even you are happy you still look at some other backs, but here I am really curious. I have AD in the version 1.1 (if it matters, yet as it seems, with Mr.S it merely does). As it happens they have that very added value (surprisingly often overlooked) of having bass ports on sides which I have adjusted for more bass (one does not simply get rid of old habbits), which has resulted in the matter of fact, compared to HD6XX (quite new, maybe "10 hours old") soooooo similar (in basic timbre, is it how you describe the general flavour of headphones?), but with touch stronger bass (I guess more towards the mid-bass, yet not even in the slightest bad way), but of course with AD I felt like being in the spacious room with whatever I listened to, while HD650 seemed more narrow (thus the reason at the end I sold them) and vocals just like screaming right to my brainhole (definitely narrow, not very pleasing to listen to), while AD really delivered "front-facing" vocals with that very space around.

Now, to end this blather and to wrap what I am looking for, I am trying to guess what would be the Aeons like, might they just be a replacement for Alpha Dogs?
From what I read here in the thread (even tho some are from pre-production model), they must be similar to Alpha Dogs, spacious closed-back headphones with a great bass (finally not forgetting about sub-bass), with a good balance, but evey once in a while a bit more aggressive treble (which is btw, what happens with ADs as well).

So if not compared to ADs, what are they alike (production model if possible) compared to HD650/6XX in:
    - sub-bass (impact)
    - upper-bass (body)
    - sound stage (spaciousness)
    - vocals position (of course, may depend on recording, but in the most of cases it will be same)
    - (occasional) treble harshness?

    Thank you, as always.;)

REALLY? Head-fi seems to think that Jot+AEON is the best match up EVER, if the comments there are anything to go by.

The efficacy of a stand alone amp is somewhat dependent on your ear sensitivity, ear training, and source material. it's quite possible that for many people for some material, different SS amps will not make much of a difference.
