I did make a little felt support strip to go under the 4 layers to stop it collapsing.

Probably not needed but tryed it anyways...

For those who want to try official angled pads..

Dan's now added some on the MRSPEAKERS website.

    Good luck
    Dave

If the new pads have same interior spacing and construction as the stock pad, or AlphaPads,
    Then I wouldn't bother.

    I tried with AlphaPads...
    no go.
All leather/pleather pads that I tried will enhance the congested qualities except the Audeze pads and hifiman velours.
    Still, worth a try.

    Side note,
The hifiman pads are such and exact fit with a greater inside opening,
That the angled ones are the ONLY pads I would try next.

Looking to try a different pad, you wouldnt recommend the Audeze Vegan pads? Which HifiMan pads would you recommend?

Those are exactly the pads I chose as best.
Second best was the Audeze leather.
Yet, the angled Hifiman pads should be both cheaper and best fitting.
So that's why I would try them.

As an update to the ETHER mods I have found they have a lot of room with the right rig.
Maxx got me started looking to improve things. I have stripped deoxited all internal connections soldered female crimps.. flushed with IPA and now SILCLEAR silver grease.
I even went mad and got the Intona, as Alchemist recommend, this sits with my IFI IPURIFIER 2.

The internal cleaning has blown open the sound the Ethers produce. I didn't realise they could sound so good. Maxx's mods have made them special..
Cleaning inside my OPPO HA1. Maxx's mods and the intona. This hobby now makes sense.....

    Cheers mate and good luck

    Dave..

I just put on the Audeze Vegan pads. Improved soundstage, very comfortable. Haven't noticed any reduction in bass.

I purchased this foam and feel this foam does make the sound more balanced and slightly warmer and closer to my taste (did not open the diamond cut in the middle). I am actually quite happy with the current Ether as it is. And will think a bit if I really want take the Flow upgrade offer anymore.

You can use the foam on the flow.
The Flow has two layers (felt&foam), which are integral to its sound.
They MUST be kept in and used to tame the sound of the driver,
Which is very bright without them in...

Then there is the dam pads...
After all the discussion here on pads,
The Flow is STILL using same small inner diameter pads.

I bought the Flow in hopes of opening up the soundstage which has totally NOT been addressed.
I returned it right away once I realized the Flow is not designed to ever be opened.

I had high hopes for the Flow,
but in the end your better off with Ether which can be adjusted to your liking.

The Ether & Flow are more fun and intimate cans which excell in that area and are , to me, secondary home cans, not my main Home can.
So they are good picks for secondary cans.

A top home can to me, needs to have more soundstage and refined sound,
    Which are HD800 & HEKV2 for me.

Happy xmas Maxx...I heard they are releasing the MRSPEAKERS electrostatic Pads January with a wider opening...
    Something to look out for....

The original pads were too small... Rolling the Ether pads to audeze Vegan under Maxx's advice just the most comfortable things ever...I have a big issue not falling asleep since I got them....

    Have a good break all

Maxx said, for the Audeze vegan pads: "the fitment was a bit loose but stays on". What do you think about it? Will it stay on for a long time / forever or might it fall off after some time? I would highly prefer vegan pads because other than sonic changes I don't like the feel of leather at all.

They are loose but not wobbling about. You could use an elastic band to keep them tighter but was never a problem. I have had my Ether flow upgrade and got the Mr speakers Angled pads now. They are tight on the rim and comfortable but the vegans are just super comfortable like a magic sonic pillow.
Anone who can sow could do a running stitch with some elastic thread..

But never an issue for me...
    Good luck
sorry I just noticed this post

    Cheers
