    I suppose I should be all flabbergasted, but...

    The fact that HiFiMan is already selling a *300B stat amp and an headphone combo for the price of a new luxury SUV* kinda takes the thunder out of this one for me.

    Granted, the Shangri-La is so ridiculous I suspect most people tend to defensively forget about its existence.

    That is aimed directly at rich people with too much money and too little taste. A $6k flagship planar is going for the HF crowd. I think this is actually much more egregious than the estat.

    Totally agree. Let's look at the EC studio and you can track its development over the last 5 years with multiple iterations. The input of many trusted ears and decades of experience. Meticulous matching of parts..

    This thing just popped up out of nowhere. They slap a whopping great pricetag on it and wait for fanboys to pick it up..
    It's counterproductive to the hobby.
    HFM: Why innovate when you can simply make expensive placebos?

    Koss should just run a separate line of KSC-75s and rename them KSC-1000 or KSC Edition 6. Maybe f**k up the looks more. Call them flagship and sell it for $12k.

    The line between the "head-fi crowd" and "the rich crowd" has been becoming less and less distinct over the years, particularly in the Asian markets.

    Also I find it funny that HiFiMan has taken the whole "Edition" name from Ultrasone, considering such well respected classics as the Edition 7 ($4k on release), Edition 10 ($3k on release), and Edition 5 ($5k on release), I can see the temptation.

    I'm not kidding either: Ultrasone is super popular in Asia.

    At least Ultrasone tried to make their headphones look luxurious....
    Same with other companies like Final who have flagship headphones that are priced at this level. The only real difference that makes this "targeted at the head-fi crowd" is that it looks (and is probably built) like shit, so people assume it has to at least sound good.

    This and the earlier post with the picture of the silver egg slicer are spot on. The damn thing looks downright scary to me due to personal experience.

    A couple years ago I started replacing the halogen recessed bulbs in my home with LED bulbs. The poorly finished metal heat sink on a cheap $5 bulb I once tried left a nasty gash on my right index finger. This HFM "flagship" reminds me so much of this...

    I am seeing no reference to this headphone on HF. Not in the featured content section, not in the sponsor section, not in the headphone section. I guess some people are trying to decide how to spin this so that people will loosen their sphincters enough to let this garbage get shoved up their asses.
