A frequent member in the discord for /r/headphones. SBAF has brought a lot to me in terms of learning/mods/reviews. Figured it was time to finally become a member.
Just put in an order for the Audio-GD NFB-11. Hopefully it'll be here before xmas. Pair of cans I have right now are the Senns HD598Cs, will probably replace them with some HD650 once I get the NFB11 setup. Looking forward to being apart of the group!
Hello all! Like others, I've been lurking here for a few months and decided to join in on the conversation. I'm usually not one for forum posting, but hopefully I can have something to offer.
I live in New Orleans and work in the film industry. Long time lover of music but in the last couple of years I have been getting more into the gear side of it. I am not the greatest when it comes to describing how gear sounds, but perhaps that will come with time. For now I can simply say "Yeah, I like how that sounds."
I have a decent desktop setup (PC > Gumby > Liquid Carbon > HD650/C-FLOW) that i have been looking into integrating into my 2-channel setup that's in the other room (VPI Classic 2 > Onkyo-TX-8020 receiver > ELAC B6), but that topic would be better suited for another thread.
Anyway, I hope that I can be an active member with something to contribute!
Welcome @Codgedodger and @Derf
Hey guys, found this place on Google in the process of doing some research. Currently my only set of headphones are Monoprice 8323's, and I mainly listen to music on my monitors. But I am in the process of improving my entire setup and layout to the point where now I can feel more comfortable buying a pricier, better pair of headphones should a good deal on the right model come along. Although that wasn't the main reason for the improvements: I was primarily looking to get rid of the possibility of computer noise getting into my audio (which, while rare on my current computer - unlike computers I've had in the past where the system noise was extremely prominent - did still show up from time to time), as well as avoid constantly getting up and leaning over and bending down to plug and unplug wires here and there depending on the source and output I wanted to use. Also, lets face it, some of the audio gear out there just looks plain cool which, along with the "master of one/few" aspect, adds even more to the overall experience, at least for me.
Welcome @tirisredjuh. Sounds like you're at the start of a fun journey.
Cool. Often some of the new people that introduce themselves here already have some insanely great chain, so it's nice to see you coming in with lots to discover. I've only been at this a few years, and my setup is still rather modest, but my ears have learned a lot. Have fun.
New here as well but I started reading back when this was Changstar.
Audio Technica R70x
Schiit Modi Multibit
Rupert Neve RNHP
I have a Feliks Elise on the way as well. This hobby is a money pit for sure.
Hey all - I'm Nick. Long time lurker, etc etc!
I've been thinking about making some serious steps with my audio set up and figured it'd be very helpful to immerse myself with a knowledgeable community for a while.
Currently, my setup isn't much:
Creative Sound Blaster ZXR - I haven't had issues with the DAC here so far but I suspect I might once I switch cans. The amp has been fine for the 598's as well, but I'm sure I'll find it pretty lacking once I start making some changes.
I'm planning on picking up new cans and planning an amp / DAC upgrade path for myself, as well. I've been considering quite a few different sets - so I guess it's just a matter of figuring out what exactly my taste even is.
There's just wayyyy too much good music coming out for me lately - and I want to make sure I'm getting as much out of it as I can. Now seems as good a time as any to treat myself and settle into a hobby I've always had passive interest in.
Thanks for having me, all!
Welcome to SBAF!!
Hello all! Found this place after a brony friend of mine pushed me here. I've owned several mid-fi gears before, an LCD3, STAX 207/507/007MkI & a pair of Kingsound H3s, I've got 727 & Liquid Gold to drive these.
Last yr was the yr I got hooked into consumer tuning, and that was when I sold all the aforementioned headphones for some portapros and BOSE. Honestly I don't think I'd like any other headphones more than BOSE, specially BOSE 1st gen OE & IE. Granted, it's a phone for the masses, but I can't get past that typical BOSE tuning. So euphonic, so melodious I can easily get lost in music. I hope someday I'd get Ygg & Rag for my bose & as of now my main goal's to drive BOSE to its full potential, which may sound laughable to many. Honestly I can't think of any phone I'd switch over in the near future, b/c bose beats audeze, stax or jps any day in my book. Yep it's hilarious and painful to get your normal everyday $80 phone driven by $4000 gear, but that's true for me.
Thx for having me, all!
People are gonna think you're either nuts or a troll lambda, but I'm genuinely glad you're here. Your preferences are refreshing TBH.
I'll admit my money has been on troll because of how hot all the recent takes and statuses have been (even if you replace BOSE with HD800 it seems like a lot)
But if you've found what makes you happy and enjoy the music, more power to you lambda, I guess that's what we are all trying to do after all.
Yeah.. one thing that gives away a good trolling is being too heavy-handed and the "BOSE is love, BOSE is life" falls into that category.
Let's examine the facts:
Joins SBAF yesterday.
Writes 5(ish) profile posts all re: BOSE today. These are now deleted except for one: "BOSE is love, BOSE is life," a play on a stupid meme.
The rest were similarly over-the-top ridiculous.
Unclear who deleted the other profile posts.
Writes an over-the-top intro post in which they:
Mention a "brony" friend;
Describe a variety of expensive gear (some aptly) as "mid-fi;" and
Play into our biases by referencing top-tier Schiit gear as their goal stack.
Represents themselves as 18 and has purchased headphones costing around or more than $2,000. Not implausible, but unlikely.
Despite being 18, previously read MF reviews "a few years ago" (source). Again, not implausible, but unlikely.
Appears to genuinely love the Bose sound more than everything but Koss. (Ibid.)
Plays into our biases by describing a hate of playnars. (Ibid.)
Is looking to upgrade from Bose to TakeT. (Ibid.)
References favorite headphones being first-gen Bose on-ears, which appear to have been released on 10/12/2006, roughly 8.6 years after their birth.
Writes like a teenager, lending credence to their claims.
My verdict with current info: Semi-troll.*
*I lean more toward exuberant teenager with lots of money and quirky sound quality preferences amusing themselves on a forum where they know they'll get a reaction.
Lol, damn @zonto you really dissected that post. Well done bro!!
I'm not passing judgment yet... But I agree with Zonto's assessment, seems spot on.
Welcome @lambda! My apologies to your ears.
Eh, troll or not, I've actually had some decent conversation with them.
While the Bose stuff strikes me as bizarre, they actually have a point about Koss sounding better than a lot of boutique stuff. The PortaPros and KSC75 (or whatevers) are pretty hard to beat in terms of cost to sound ratio. And they have enough sense to know the Koss ESP 950 is awesome.
If the Bosesturbation stays in their profile, I don't see any reason to get riled.
I'm also a long time lurker. Used to be active on head-fi; not so much anymore. I've done quite a bit of ortho modifications and transplants over the past 5 years, or so. More recently I've been building headphone amps with a ton of guidance from dBel84 and fishski!
I have more headphones and amps than I know what to do with. I'm considering starting a self-help group if nick n will admit his powerlessness over this obsession, as I have, and join me. ;-))
I know several of you guys...Hi!
I look forward to participating in the SBAF forums.
@Armaegis: thanks for the invite to Tom's Neurochrome tour and your kind words.
Best to All,
Welcome to SBAF. Must be fun building your own amps. I wish I had the knowledge, skill, and time. Unfortunately, I have none of any.
