New releases wise, I'm still waiting for Esperanza Spalding to release another album. That, and Com Truise has been working on one for quite a while, I hope it's released in 2016 as well.

Why shitty? I've only listened to it in my car, so I haven't noticed yet... But it's a fine damn album.

The new Dream Theater album "The Astonishing" has been out since Jan. 29th and it is very different than the usual Dream Theater. They use a live orchestra in their songs and the songs are more "Laid Back" - not too much heavy material. The musicianship and Technical prowess are still very much present. The album is a concept album, the whole album is a story. I won't go into the story for those who wish to listen to the album. The album has 34 tracks. The more I listen to this album, the more I have fallen in love with it.

Here is a small sample of one of the songs off of the album:

Enough dynamic range, not Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" good, still acceptable and the melancholy comes through in the small details. No complaints from me and yes I bought the CD.

I'm not much into metal or hard rock but this album reminds me of the good parts of Rush and Metallica and it's a fun listen.

I'm really surprised to hear that. I don't think it sounds much like any of Metallica album I've ever heard. What song or album do you feel is similar? Oh and by the way, "The Astonishing" is absolutely amazing, it is certainly my favorite album so far from Dream Theatre. That being said, I haven't been that big of a Dream Theatre fan in the past [BANNING INTENSIFIES] so that may not say too much.

The only Metallica album I've listened to is the one where they perform with an orchestra. S&M?

Pretty apathetic toward the new Animal Collective. Moreso than even their last one. I can dig one, maybe two tracks tops.

The latest Polysics however is great. Entitled What's THIS???, it's Devo-esque hyperactive Japanese synth poprock goodness.

    Other stuff I've dug:
    Aluk Todolo - Voix
Teeth of the Sea - Highly Deadly Black Tarantula
Bonnie Prince Billy - Pond Scum

Haven't checked these out yet, but interested in:
School of the Seven Bells - SVIIB
    Porches - Pool
Wild Nothing - Life of Pause

I'm really looking forward to the new M83 album, Junk, based off the single "Do It, Try It."
Similarly hyped for new Death Grips, Bottomless Pit, based off "Hot Head."

Feel the same way about the new Animal Collective, although anyone mentions the state Florida I tend to hum Florida-da in my head. I have liked Noah Lennox's Panda Bear stuff so much that I can give them a pass though.

I will have to check out Polysic album you recommended. Definitely sounds up my alley.

I thought School of Seven Bells was a pretty good album, especially due to circumstances and had to be finished after one of the members had passed.

Below are a few new ones I've been enjoying lately...

    Stuart McCallum

A true genius in my opinion, with the guitar as well as with compositions. He's been a part of the Cinematic Orchestra for years, which if you haven't heard them before, please do yourself a favor and do so soon, you won't be disappointed. Below are two songs off his new album, "The City", and live versions from his recent tour. If you dig 'em, also check out his "Distilled Live" album. I have great expectations of Stuart in the future, I just wish he would come to the US and put on a show! Highly recommended!

Stuart McCallum - North Star ft Sharlene Hector (Live at the RNCM Opera Theatre)

Stuart McCallum - T-Onics (Live from the RNCM Opera Theatre)

    Vittoria Fleet

London Duo now living in Berlin and who have been really testing the boundaries of electronic music on the great n5MD label for about 7 years now. Below is their first single off their new album "Greed LP". Warning, she's a little kooky in the video, but in a sort of funny/good way.

    Like Glue By Vittoria Fleet

    Beacon

Duo from Brooklyn who are now finishing up a US tour for their new album, "Escapements". Very eclectic style with bits of dub and even RnB mixed in with their electronic sound.

    Beacon - IM U

    Kiasmos

New project from Olafur Arnalds, along with his buddy Janus Rasmussen. Below is their recent show on KEXP, showcasing their latest work, "Swept EP".

Kiasmos - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)

    Enjoy!

Couple more I almost forgot about...

    HÆLOS

Proper first full offering, their "Full Circle" album out now, from a group I'm expecting good things from.

HÆLOS - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)

    GEMS

Another proper first offering from a duo that until now has just been releasing single tracks and small EPs. Warning, the official video below is really NSFW.

GEMS - "Soak" (Official Music Video) - NSFW

One of their older tracks for reference as well...

    GEMS - Medusa (Uncut)

Once again, all good tunes in my opinion and I hope you all enjoy as well!
