This thing sounds good but has quite disturbing undertone if you think about the lyrics. Wow.

 

I'm enjoying the latest downtempo/electronica album by Bonobo. I picked up the 24 bit version at bleep.com

There are a few artists whose albums I will buy blind and Bonobo is one of those for me (Ulrich Schnauss is another). Nice beats and exquisite production values, great for listening on headphones.

Speaking of new releases..

The XX - I See You (or as @take jokingly called it "I C U"). This album isn't what I expected it to be, and at first I was greatly disappointed. Its like they were making a soundtrack for a James Bond Movie, where their groundbreaking self titled album could have been a sound track for a Guy Ritchie Movie.

On Hold is their first single and the best song on the album (which if you are reading have probably already heard) (EDIT: I guess this video could be considered NSFWish)



Dangerous is probably my other favorite song on the album so far.



The Flaming Lips - Oczy Mlody

I almost played their albums non-stop when I still had Spotify on. Can you get their FLACs on Tidal? Tidal is where I am going next for streaming (that Prince catalogue!).

I am not totally sold on that new sound.

 

Regardless what we think of this new direction at least we get the high SQ that we've become used to from The xx.

 

Ordered the new album and the Jamie XX album from 2015.

I am skipping the second album though because I could not stand the spoken word nature of that album. Without some bass lines and guitar melodies the lyrics felt like a recorded play rather than a music album.

 

This is a great thread, now i will listen to the songs you all have mentioned. I could never have discovered these gems on my own.

'In Colour' was probably my favourite album from 2015. It's crazy good. 'Loud Places'... Damn, I still get goosebumps.

Oh and how could I forget Taylor Swift, some of you may not know this, but if we see an album in 2017, the San Francisco Giants are a lock to win the World Series, so that'll be fun.

I'll post opinions on the stuff I order if anyone is interested. I'm just finishing up relistening to the albums of 2016 I purchased which is coming up at roughly 40 records.

Austra's "Future Politics" album just released today.

Sohn's new album "Rennen" is pretty dope.

Kelly Lee Owens' self-titled debut album should be out March 24th.

 

@drfindley i wish Beck would get that album out already. I've read the Sigur Ros will have a new one this year.

 

Also the Tool rumours...

 

I dig The National and Grizzly Bear. Both make quality stuff. But Grizzly Bear man.. their last 2 albums are honey to my ears.

 

Tool album rumors have been going for 10 long years...
