Get their first album, it is amazing. If Pink Floyd was into a rhythm and blues mood, well you end up with that album and lyrically De Staat is quite sharp.

Miss the female vocals but Dirty Projector's self titled, new release is another gem. It's more relatable and accessible than their previous albums, despite the signature off-kilter arrangements. Love the closing tracks.

Sun Kil Moon - Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood

Grabbed this yesterday. More rocknroll protest songy than my favorites from them like Admiral Fell Promises, but still enjoyable.

I've always liked Laura Marling. But her new album Semper Femina takes it all to a new level, I really can't stop listening to it. Not a weak cut, several different styles and all of it totally amazing.

Not exactly new but worth it. The "Purple Rain 2017 re-issue" with the 2015 remaster is good. The B-sides are good. The extra DVD is a nice bonus and the sound quality should be good. Prince personally must have monitored a large part of this release. The "I Would Die 4 U extended version" is a good example of how much fun this album can be. If there will be more post-humus Prince releases just hope they will have the standard of this release. Every Prince fan should get this for the B-sides alone.

Good news, the Prince videos are back on YouTube!

On the album this version is 10 minutes of Funky Latin grooviness. It is amazing...

Ted Gioia just posted his 100 best albums of 2017:
    http://tedgioia.com/bestalbumsof2017.html

He's primarily known as a jazz critic and historian, but his annual list covers all genres. I've found his recommendations to be a very good way to discover new music I would never have found otherwise. Sometimes I will buy something based on the cover art. Sometimes it's the brief descriptions that grab me ("Illegal Ethiopian Dance Music" for example). A very good resource overall.

this looks like an excellent resource! Thanks for sharing. I used to look forward to the emusic.com EOY top 100 but over the years I've felt less and less connected to many of their top ones. I love the short label format of this list.

He also posts a companion "best 100 tracks" list, but that one doesn't seem to be up yet for 2017. The website is hard to navigate, but if you look in the gray sidebar, you can find the annual lists going back to 2011. Enjoy!
