I mean, when we play around with speakers sometimes we gonna need subs. Well, in the world of hps, maybe we should also...?

 

i guess it depends. i think headphones don't need subs since lot produces exceptional extension and sound and is used and understand for use in a different form of application(s) and so forth. i guess if you want the sub-bass bone rattling vibration and asthma inducing chest slam i would just go for a speaker+sub(s) combo overall instead personally. you can combine a sub with headphones but, i think the low frequency modulation in the air will cause some weird distraction and weird sound due to interference and so forth. might as well get one of those butt kicker things that is supposed to emulate ultra low frequency rumble instead due to no interference between sound pressure of the room and headphone interaction.....

if talking bout adding a dedicated lfe driver with the full-range driver. that is done pretty much already in gaming headphones for longest time. use to be done in old-school 2 or 3-way gigantic stereo headphones back in the 70's too but, ya know....

 

I don't think there is a time when we don't need subs.

I used to connect sub for my headphones for fun, but if I am going to use a sub might as well use speakers.

When I did the Harman listening training with my HE-6, I could hear 6db peaks and dips at 30Hz. That's good enough for me. The music I listen to needs a proper low end reproduction but I dont care about the physical experience. I just wanna hear it.

 

For headphone listening, I thought the sub was built into the seat of the chair, firing upwards, straight into the backside.

There's an awful lot of, err, gut before it hits you in the gut, but it gets there in the end.

After the abject failure of my Audioboobs project, maybe this should be my next endeavour... except that I bet this one exists already.

My speakers and headphones both run off the same DAC so I can run them simultaneously, often leading to interesting results... but nothing explicitly good or bad. Some weird phase shit happens and my ears don't like it.

I would say subs are unnecessary, if you have a good enough headphone.

 

I'm on a lot of lists...
