So it's an all black HD650 for $200?

LOL, re-read first post. I added the pictures a few minutes later. I think they capture the color well, at least under the halogen lights in my kitchen. Dark navy blue. I prefer the glossy black of the HD650. But heck, I'm not going to bitch at HD650 performance for $200.

Buy this for cheap and get a good tube amp from @Hand's guide: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...erbaf-cheap-tube-amp-guide-1200-or-less.2796/ Or if you are afraid of tubes get Jotunheim (good synergy with HD650). Game over. The HD650 scales and scales with better gear. 98% of people in HF haven't heard the HD650 at anywhere near its potential.

    My question is ..

Do you (subjectively) like or prefer the new color of hd6xx, compared with the original hd650?

Oh god, my memory. I guess that's what I get for skimming through. Thank you for pointing that out. Well damn, it's now easier than ever to acquire one of the best headphones on the market.

I prefer the Vali 2 over Jotunheim, at least with EH 6CG7, with modded HD650. Jotunheim is clean, fast, and detailed, nor is it nasty sounding SS, but it's a little too forward, a little too bright, and lacks the 3D stage of a good tube amp that really seems to sing with a modded HD650.

    So...

Modi Multibit + Vali 2 w/ EH 6CG7 + HD6XX w/ mods...killer budget setup. You could stop there, or you could save up for a long time and splurge on a Gungnir Multibit/Yggdrasil, sweet digital SPDIF source, and an EC tube amp without ever changing your headphone.

Very awesome. Looks like senn basically skipped paint or went with a very simple paint stage. Probably saved quite a bit for production costs.

This is great news for the whole community. Solid Senn build quality and anal retentive driver matching for 199. Everyone should at least try an HD650 and at this price they'd be crazy not to. Opens up a phenomenal pair of headphones to the masses with an extremely accessable price. RIP HD650 used market, we loved you.

Yeah, The HD650 paint actually looks something like a tri-coat on a car with a pearl dust middle layer. The HD6XX paint looks like a very basic semi-gloss.

wow @Hands thanks for basically describing my work + home rigs. :D
well, minus the HD650 which I may have to nab now and have you mod for me ha!

now that you've finally returned it- ;)
this week have been jonesing on the Vali2 amp with HE400S/HE500, just enjoy it's portrayal and 3D stage more so than Jotunheim.
might just have to let Jotun go and get a Modi Multibit+Vali2 pair and call it done since the synergy will hold with HD6XX.

I think we all know there's no stopping there hah. The HD650s have maintained a spot in my headphone stable through all my gear ventures. From my early Modi2/Magni2, to ventures in OTL land, to finally landing in balanced land paired with Gungnir Multibit and Mjolnir 2 with some nos Telefunken deliciousness. The HD650s have grown with the gear everytime and I don't think I'll ever be without an hd650 in the house.

That's what I was thinking, multistage paint ain't cheap or easy to do right. By going to single stage I bet they have almost no rejects and labor prices get cut down a lot.

Add 25-30% on top of the price and you get the EU price. But like I said, great deal for people in the US!

Have you noticed any differences between the HD6XX and HD650?

I have a HD650, and was considering getting a second one for my wife, but now that there's the HD6XX...

Merged two threads. Didn't expect the news to come out so early this morning. FWIW, I had the same press embargo lift time as Tyll.

Don't give credit to where it's not due. Jude never gave a shit about the HD650 until now, He's been out hawking shitty $2000 headphones and IEMs. Massdrop had all sorts of headphones to choose from, but they those chose the HD650. A lot of this goes to this community, not Jude. In fact, Jude never gave a shit about anything from Massdrop until we gave the K7XX some good coverage.

I'm definitely buying these. I've got my K7XX up for sale at HF already. Too bad they won't ship until Dec. 15 though.
