    Hi,

so first of all: Currently I'm using Fidelio X2, but I'm not satisfied, especially because I find the treble to be uncomfortably piercing at times.

So, now I'm testing Audioquest Nighthawk and basically like them.

However, someone told me that generally speakers/studiomonitors will have smoother treble due to the acustics and them being different than the acoustic setup of a headphone which is right next to your ears. So what do you think about that?

Might I be more satisfied with studiomonitors then? (It's just about listening to music btw.)

Also, I wonder about sound quality. How does a pair of studiomonitors which altogether costs about 600€ compare to a headphone of that price range. I always thought the headphone would do much better but apparently that's not common opinion?

And well...if you are of the opinion that studio monitors might be a good choice for me then I'd also be happy about recommandations! Btw, yes monitors are supposed to be neutral, however, I'd still appreciate models that are more on the warm, smooth treble side of things.

We have several monitor thread rights on the first page of this subforum... plenty of options within those pages: (including a few EU specific ones that we don't know much about over here in North America)

The question of sound is difficult to answer. In general, headphones are like taking a microscope to zoom into detail, but you might lose the forest for the trees. Speakers in general win for staging and by far for bass impact if you have something that can move an adequate amount of air (monitors usually do not... but there are some exceptions). I wouldn't necessarily put one ahead of the other for general sound quality; it depends what you're looking for.

Speakers of course take up more space, and you have room acoustics and placement to deal with. Plus if you have neighbours or such that won't tolerate noise, then you have to take that into consideration.

    Thanks.

Concering the sound: Well, it should be obvious that I'm not referring to headphones generally being superior to speakers. I'm specifically wondering wether or not studio monitors in the price range of up to ~600€ for a pair hold up to the standards of headphones in these price regions.

Also, I'd still appreciate specific recommandations for studio montitors under 600€ a pair which at least aren't known to have piercing highs and maybe have a bit of a smoother treble.

At your budget point... there are certainly several options to consider. In the world of monitors you're scratching at the entry level Genelecs or maybe a used pair of Neumanns. Good stuff overall. Read through those threads linked above; in the later pages there were a couple German choices that might be worth checking out.

Headphones in that bracket are actually in a bit of a funny space. The 500-1000 budget range is actually somewhat light on good options. You also have to consider whether you need to add a headphone amp into the mix. You might be able to snag a Focal Elear for a decent price, or consider the venerable Sennheiser HD600/650. The Elear is pushing your budget, but is relatively easy on the amping requirements. The Sennheisers on the other hand, what money you save on them should go towards the amp.

    Ok,

I just direct this question once again to every other reader of this thread:

I would appreciate specific recommandations for studio monitors which as a pair do not cost more than ~600€ and have as smooth a treble as possible.

@Armaegis already gave you great advice on a couple of threads in which you can find a lot of good information to start with.
In addition I would like to recommend that you head over to the introduction thread to introduce yourself.

I would like to recommend that you head over there as well and, please, remain there.

Wow, that escalated quickly. There's no need to be rude to people who are trying to help you to get a good start here at SBAF. There's a lot great insights to get here, but snarky comments like the one you just posted is not going to help.

I dont know what impression you got from @Changeling 's suggestion to give everyone a small introduction about you/your current journey but this isnt your typical audiophool forum - we try to be more of a community. If you dont want to be a part of it and just want advice and head out after, I think you can do that as well by politely declining instead of being rude for no apparent reason. There's enough stupid shit happening outside our windows, the least we can do is be nice ourselves

That being said, I'm going to assume you got the wrong tone over the internet and I'd recommend <edited out>

For 600 € you will not get a general recommendation. Smooth treble can mean different things to different people. There is not much to chose from and everything is a severe compromise. That is why if you really want advice you need to give some additional background of what you have tried so far and where are you going to use them, what is the front end etc, etc.
Otherwise get your shitty attitude and gtfo! Hype-fi will give you recommendations right away. Go ask there.

When this thread gets booted to "How to win friends and influence people" I vote it gets retitled "Börps Derps".

I think it should be called "Börps Derps - the story of Börps ≤ Burps"

One would think that there would be more magical means of reproducing sound in Neverland. But alas... I don't wield the ban hammer, so the thread move will suffice. Carry on.
