Phasemation EPA-007x

Anyone know anything about this guy? Its JDM only (I have a thing for JDM audio) but info is few and far between. Its about $1200 after you get a good voltage transformer and pay the forwarding fees.

What unique about it is that you can adjust the damping force with a dial. It also appears to have impedance adjustment. Seems pretty unique, wonder how it sounds.

I am using the EPA-007 as my main amp for all my low impedance, high sensitivity dynamic headphones (E-mu Teak, T5p, Yamaha Pro500). The only difference between the EPA-007 and EPA-007x is the headphone sockets.

Sweet, I was beginning to think nobody outside of Japan had ever heard one. Do you think it has the grunt to properly drive 300 ohm dynamics?

As cool as it is, it might be too risky given that you are buying it without warranty support so you'd better pray nothing ever goes wrong.

I that price range, I guess the main solid state competitors would be the EC Black Widow (if they ever make it again), the Burson Conductor V2, Cayin IHA6 and the ifi Pro ICan.

 

I bought mine in barely used condition cheap from Yahoo auction Japan. It will pop up once every month. It's circuit is relatively simple, using a shunt regulator just like the BW and I doubt it will ever break in normal working condition.

I used it to drive my T1 before acquiring the KA-10SH (http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...ransformer-coupled-ecc88-amp-from-japan.2625/). The KA-10SH gives better dynamic, just lacking tiny bit of details to the EPA-007. My KA-10SH is fully modded though.
