Pontus R2R Loaner

I'll sort out the initial details with Alvin to save anyone else having to run it down, but the first availability of the loan unit is going to be cutting things very close with some planned travel. This will probably mean that either a) someone else should take the first slot or b) we can wait until I'm back (the net effect of which would be about a week and a half delay in getting things started).

I'll post an update here as soon as we get that squared away.

Right now this loaner is, as I understand it, for the "Pontus" DAC. Most of the interest here has been around "Ares". I suspect there's more potential-purchase-interest in the Ares here, and have mentioned as much to @alvin1118 ... and have suggested either doing an Ares loaner instead, or in addition to, the Pontus.

We'll see what he can accommodate.

 

@Torq, I'd like to do for Pontus, but open to discuss if you guys would prefer Ares instead ?

Personally I'm fine with either or both.

My suspicion, based on what I've read, is that there's probably more direct interest (as in potential for purchases) in the Ares among the greater membership here. I could be wrong, of course. Only others here can answer that.

 

@alvin1118 If you're willing to send both DACs out, I'm certainly willing to absorb the additional shipping cost on this end for the extra unit. Of course, that's probably peanuts compared to shipping from Singapore!

I could also see there being differential interest in those units, with the potential that there are two independent tours.

 

@Torq, okay, we can send both Ares and Pontus. Perhaps we could split the loaner program to two programs instead? For:

1. Ares
2. Pontus

 

@sphinxvc If you'll be so good as to set up individual sign-up threads for the Denafrips "Pontus" and "Ares", I think we can get appropriately targeted coverage on a coupe of the more interesting discrete R2R DACs to pop up of late.

You can put me in for both - timing to be decided.

Given my schedule, and what @alvin1118 projects for shipping, it might make sense to send them to you first, and then have me come grab them once you're done with them. That'd speed things up, get things measured, and save on local shipping.

Also, I totally lied. I can't listen to expensive DACs right now!

Slowly trying to save up for a house in SoCal. The temptation is too strong.

 

It's so cool to see someone with the balls to stand behind a product and offer it up for examination like this. That deserves a lot of praise.

(Also, pretty sure that the Ares is the unit people really want to hear- that poorly-contested sub-$1000 bracket is open to more competition for non-D/S DACs right now... )

 

I'm backed with many happy customers all over the world of both DENAFRIPS Ares & Pontus, the loaner program is definitely beneficial to everybody, so i'm happy
