Go all the way. I know it's not reversible, but I've seen very few people report regrets RE: doing the full suite of HD650 mods. Most people report that it maxes out the headphones positives and minimizes the negatives.

Normally I would but I noticed Marv had mentioned that with the Jotunheim the 650 doesn't need the quarter mod at least, but did recommend the Dynamat. Just wasn't sure if that included the foam and spider or not.

I can always start without touching the foam, then try removing the foam and if I think it sounds better, then remove the spider as well.

Burn-in continues. It is still clearly inferior to the Ragnarok with the HE-6. The Ragnarok produces "dimentionality" to the sound that Jotunhiem simply does not when paired with the HE-6. This phenomena isn't present with the TH900.

I'm also interested in this. 650 on the way, and likely a Jotun to follow, but I'm crap with mods so if I can avoid them, I'd rather just use 650 stock.

The stock HD650 is the headphone that started me out really enjoying headphone listening. I can listen to it for hours without fatigue. It seems to have a forgiving quality while still sounding revealing to me. I even enjoy the little bass bump. I believe that I will always have a stock version.

I bought a second pair to mod. I finished the coin/spider/damplifier pro mod and listened to it for a couple of hours today. I really like the way it sounds. More detailed and the bass seems more flat than stock.

I have not directly compared my stock to my modded HD650 yet. I look forward to doing that. I don't know if I will find one a clear winner. I have a feeling that I will be enjoying both versions. They sound like different headphones, based on my short listen to the modded version today.

I think that I will end up getting a Jotunheim at some point. From the impressions that I have read, it seems likely that I will enjoy the stock HD650 (with balanced cable) with that. Time will tell.

I've done the dynamat and rear foam removal with HD650 and have zero regrets. Sounds better with both Joti and Vali 2.

I am taking a conservative approach to modding the HD650. Like @Merrick I also found @Marvey advocating just doing the dynamat mod for use with the Jotunheim. I am waiting for Venus Audio to finally ship the balanced cable. If for some reason I feel there is something lacking with the balanced-dynamat-650-Jotunheim combo then I can always remove foam and spider cage.

Already had my HD650 full modded and I think it sounds good from Jotun.

Aaaah, so I am not alone.. When you lot stop buying all of Amazon UK's 650s, I intend to get a second 650 to mod- but really want to keep the gorgeous slightly dark but beautifully detailed stick 650.

If you do get a Jot, be sure to try the 650 balanced on there...

Good luck on that. I am trying to get amazon.co.uk to set up a "Subscribe & Save" where I get a HD650 every month. :)

Got mine a couple days ago with the dac. Initial impressions with the LCD-3F (balanced) are a fuller sound compared to the o2/odac, quite airier but not muddy. It actually reminds me of my project ember, but now I have an equally powerful SS option.

You can watch the Deals thread to find this sort of thing; unlikely that people will remember anyone asking to be PM'd specific deals.
