I'm no Marv, but I'm definitely ordering one, no cards, tonight and will compare when it arrives.

Ragnarok does have a separate amp board. Could be upgradable.

C'est la vie my sprout :( didn't think it would sell...
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS-Audio-Sprout-Integrated-Amplifier-/131920249231?

It's a good speaker amp (if you can live with the bass boost)... but hum in the headphone amp (they all do that) annoys me.

I have a Moby, do I go Vali2, or Joti? Anyone think there will eventually be a Joti sized near field speaker amp? Kinda need one now :D

I'd have no problems selling my Rag for a Jotunheim if I ended up preferring it based on sound alone. Cannibalizing the line-up for better performance at a lower cost always seems like the right option to me. Now if the Jotunheim can also drive high efficiency speakers...

I asked Jason about this on HF and his reply was basically "no way, headphones only". His concern was that highly reactive loudspeaker loads could induce catastrophic failure of the output stage. On the other hand, I caught a whiff of legal shmegal CYA similar to the "no user servicable parts" caveat. On paper the amp should probably have at least 3 to 4 watts for HE loudspeakers with a resistive load.

Anyone know if the modules will be available as a stand alone purchase? I'm thinking of getting the amp now, but it would be nice to know I can get the DAC module later.

It's open. If there is overflow, I'll get a hotel in Sherman Oaks to make it closer to everyone.

Are the dual 4490 chips on the card there to support balanced operation, or are they used for left and right channels? ie, if using the Jinkleheimer in SE mode with the 4490 card, would it still be using both 4490 chips?

I'm seriously tempted to order a Jotunheim with the phono card and pick-up one of the Rega RP1 (or Pro-Ject RPM 1.3) turntables that are on clearance at the moment for a quick-and-dirty vinyl setup for the office. Only three things are holding me back ... I don't want to move LPs back and forth from home, I have never gotten on with vinyl via headphones (love it via my speaker rig), and I have no idea if the RP1 or RPM1.3 are worth the bother.

Will common sense win out over "new shiny!" ...

For two channels you only need one chip. No need to get two chips unless you are doing balanced operation. I assume it would still use both chips in single ended mode, It's just half the channels would be accessed. Turning on and off the chip while switching between balanced and SE would be a headache to implement for no real gain.

Based on your description I think it might be a great match with (modded) HD650 or Jupiter. Since you said you also preferred it to Rag (which costs like 4 times more), do you think it's superior to Valhalla 2 even for stuff like HD6X0?

I think I've gotten tacit approval from Jason to be totally honest about it so I will say more.

It's a neutral sounding amp, and as I said before, it's not afraid to pull off that "Schiit" mid-forwardness sound of the Magni 2, Asgard 2, Mjolnir 1, Rag, etc. The HD650 I imagine would be great match. Even HD600 or modded HD800. I imagine Elear and Jupiter having excellent synergy. Of course source will come into play - this is a good thing - it means the amp will let you differentiate the source and imparts less of its signature. I don't think a bright DAC will do any favors with a bright headphone. That being said, there is no etchy bitchy nasty treble crap. Just that the amp can be aggressive. As Sir Denis Eton-Hogg would say, it is "dogmatically vigilant".

Let me provide an example. The TH-X00 (which does have some treble spikes) from the Joten with the built-in DAC was much more aggressive sounding than the Vali 2 (laid back) + Moby (easygoing). Actually too aggressive for me. However I thought the Joten was quite good with Moby as the source (with a variety of headphones).

As for it being superior to Valhalla 2, that's tough to say. SS and tubes are very different and I would really need to sit down and do another one of those heptagon things to describe how they are different. This would be an interesting comparison as the Valhalla 2 isn't a warm sounding amp either. BTW, I am actually not a fan of the warmer Schiit amps or warm amps in general; but I totally understand their appeal.

I would also love a more detailed octagon type comparison with the Valhalla 2

Though i think the idea of it being a particularly aggressive amp has made my decision for me.

From what I understand, it's not a dual mono DAC; it's a fully differential DAC. I think that means the dac's decode opposite each other, but I'm not sure what that means.

Since I've already got a mjo2, I wonder how how Jotunheim would sound with some tubes in front with mjo2 as a pre-amp. Hm...
