Playstation 3 toslink a bit better than MacBook Pro toslink, which actually works out great for concert Blu-rays (big screen to match great sound). So for now, no MacBook use at all with Gungnir Multibit (contrary to my original plan) but it's working out.

Rather than trying to enhance USB performance, might look for a device with coax SPDIF that can do all types of disc as well as network/attached multimedia (e.g. Oppo BDP-103). Something about handling CDs that I'm starting to enjoy again.

I use the Toslink output on my iMac connected to an Assemblage D2D-1 jitter filter with a glass optical cable. The BNC output is connected to my Bifrost Multibit with an Atlas Mavros digital cable. I use Amarra Hi Fi for playback and the sound is awesome.

Has anyone tried using multiple Wyrds in series from the usb out on a schiit dac? I'm running two Wyrds inbetween my Yggdrasil and my iMac and I greatly prefer it over just running one. I know, deminising returns blah blah blah, but even if I'm not achieving twice the "decrapification" over just using one Wyrd I think I can hear at least a 1.5x improvement in decrapping power which makes it worth it IMO. :p

It would have been funny if it wasn't something I'd actually expect to read on Head-Fi.

Someone on HF does run two Wyrds in series. This is also the guy who I believe runs two Yggys and a MB Gungnir on the same speaker system...

Oh man. I've been officially one upped. This madman runs 3 wyrds together! Four wyrds at once were tested however three turned out to be the magic number. And let's face it, I think everyone would agree three is practical four is just crazy!

    Quoted directly from head-fi:

Hello, Yes, I use three WYRDs in series. One WYRD sounded GREAT!! Lower noise floor, improved soundstaging and imaging, and a MUCH more emotional, musical presentation with a sweeter top-end. I then tried the next WYRD in series and it was even better.

My thinking is that being a consumer-grade PC I am using, with a standard PC switching power supply which is VERY NOISY, the WYRD is OBVIOUSLY addressing the dirty USB power, and I would imagine is reducing data jitter also as it reclocks the USB signal. So if one WYRD is dramatically cleaning up the USB signal, two are cleaning it up even more. My experiment indeed shows that two in series sounds better than one. Jitter can dramatically affect and degrade the sound quality of your system, as long as the resolution of your system is capable of conveying thee changes.

So, then I tried a third WYRD and the improvement was actually a teeny weeny bit better, but because it was better, in my system, I choose to keep it in. A fourth one actually didn't sound as good, so I keep it to three.

    Cheers!"

ever mimeograph, a mimeograph, that's been, mimeographed, or re-fax 5 times... it eventually smoothes out... sounds good, & you'd never know what you're really missing-- you need to get a source, that doesn't need a weird in the first place --- nah, not gonna say that

Why do you guys think USB is that bad ? Just curious where I can get some information on that. USB sure makes things much more accessible, though, since one wouldn't have to deal with adapters.

I have a Yggdrasil. I was using RCA SPDIF from a ESI Juli@ card (C.A.P.S. V2 PC). Tried USB with a USB Disruptor and they sounded the same. Read that the Yggdrasil sounded the best with AES, so I bought a Yellowtec PUC2 Lite and powered it with the USB Disruptor. No critical listening required to hear a major improvement. I highly recommend it.

Words like major, very, really, and dramatically do not have quantifiable meanings. They do not relay useful information. Don't use them. They only serve to muddy the waters.

They serve a purpose. However, they do not take the place of detailed impressions. Knowing there is a change is not nearly as helpful as knowing what changed.

@J Seymour mind writing more detailed impressions? What changed specifically?
