Yeah I know, got lazy. Trying to do a four-wire lace on my 'World's Slowest Crack Build', it's taking all my mental energy! Can produce any number of rationalizations/excuses if requested.;)

The primary issues I see are John Atkinson's handling of the Facebook post and comments. For those of you who have not read his most recent replies on Facebook, he posted a comment in reference to SBAF and it seems to be aimed specifically at Marvey's post (see post #87 in this thread). John wrote:

"Some amusing stuff in that thread, not the least the complaints that the Yggdrasil is not in Stereophile's 'Recommended Components' listing. For the calendar-challenged among you, the most recent 'Recommended Components' was published in October 2016 and the Yggdrasil review was published in February 2017."
It is clear he was trying to provoke a reaction with his Facebook copy and by using the phrase, "calendar-challenged among you." That shows a cowardliness and lack of journalistic professionalism since his point of view was published without presenting the manufacturer's side-- this is further evidenced by the fact he selectively ignored Jason Stoddard's comments on Facebook.

Yup, they have a readership which by and large is not familiar with us. Makes sense, given our total lack of exposure at any of the nosebleed floors of the audio shows. Just wait until you see the next ad, though!

You're going with the whole equating print media and the publication to a geriatric dog with vivid imagery like I suggested to Jason, right?

It's just going to be a Modi Multibit ad with Boops' Golden Schlong logo to really irk them: $250 DAC and a phallic award. ;)

A long time ago I rather enjoyed another company that was somewhat irreverent in their approach. How many remember this ad and who it represented.

Or a "Honey I shrunk the Bifrost" poster featuring the MoMB and Mike, and the golden schlong logo like one of them Cannes award things.

I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen this ad. Looking forward to knowing who it was.

Whoa. These guys do take themselves too seriously. Nice to get confirmation we've pushed some buttons.

Perhaps "amusing" would be a good headline. Like "obsolete."

Speaking of Yggdrasil (and the other DACs), I'm surprised there was no ding for the complicated iconography and UX. I might be obtuse but I find myself fumbling sometimes.

The truly funny thing is, if anyone ever claimed their engineering was optimal, they'd be either (a) dangerously delusional or (b) dangerously dishonest.

So, yep, I'll take the sub-optimal banner too. Of course it is. We work in the real world.

Speakerlab Super 7 - you can feel the difference - interesting variation of "His master's voice".

I think you may have found the one ad that doesn't have a GIS image. That's very cool. But still glad I'm not doing speakers. And sorry for the off-topic excursion. On-topic: tomorrow, the Schiit Happened chapter is entitled, "Obsolete." It covers exactly what you think it does.

I'd love to have the time to pursue "optimal", but letting perfect be the enemy of good enough would get my ass fired.

Atkinson won't post on here. It takes away whatever readers he has on his site or social media pages to acknowledge some upstart site that has a better grasp on the future of this industry than he does.

Thanks for posting this, the Victor imagery was apparent, and I knew I recognized the speaker. However, I coudn't for the life of me remember the name. You sent me on an hour long journey through reverse image searches and combing through vintage speaker pics. Now I can sleep.

I was surprised that I didn't catch the Speakerlab Super 7 ad. I was reading the magazines at the time and that is a memorable image. I googled it but did not want to spoil the fun. Now that the cat is out of the bag:

"Below is the famous Speaker Lab Seven speaker photo, with the Old Victrola Dog listening to the speaker. The company stopped selling this photo because the animal rights people complained that it was promoting cruelty to animals, back in the late 70's. I will let you be the judge here. Personally, I love this photo. My wife hates it!"
