Sorry - can't upload a pic! Will have another go later - is there a way to do it that I'm missing?

You have to actually upload it to a server and not link it to your PC's directory.

Try extending the pads by 1 click longer and make the clamp a little tighter.

Thanks - Do you mean the pic has to uploaded to a different site (Flicker or similar) and linked to?

Today I mounted on my HD600s a pair of HD650s capsules I ordered. I will later post pics of the mods I applied; btw these drivers are great! Also, while previous ones had some kind of little lines all over it (yeah right on the transducer) these new ones have no imperfections whatsoever. Better qc for HD650s?
Also, be very cautious when removing the back plastic cage of drivers because the magnet of one almost popped out. No damage done luckily.

Just curious if anyone has the newer black box/packaging HD650, and modded them? Was it worth modding the new HD650?

I have the newer HD650 and been told they have more treble than the older HD650 (with ribbed silver packaging)

Yes it's worth it. I modded my new HD650, so did purrin and many others.

How are people cutting the inside foam for quarter mod? Would I need to remove the pads and foam, or is anyone cutting while everything's attached ?

Also, is there a photo on how much dynamat to add ? I don't want to over-do the dynamat. Is the photo on page 1 a good representation ?

I used a razor blade to cut the hole an xacto knife would have better results - a dime sized hole is good. Putting extra dynamat adds weight so use it sparingly. Look at some pictures on this thread.

    @savant -

All the answers you seek are within. We can show you the way to enlightenment. Trust in the great leader.

Shit got my Scientology recruitment mixed up with hd650 modding. Just read the damn thread. This has been answered many times. Step by step pictures early on. Mod those things before the great leader (purrin) finds out you have stock hd650's and punishes us all!

anyone try cutting a smaller hole in the back foam instead? Curious how that would change the sound(if at all). And if you're gonna have the rear foam lying around anyways why not right?

I put in a similar type of foam with a small hole in it after I first took out the back foam because I found the bass a bit too bloomy. For me, a small whole opened the sound up a bit and boosted the bass a bit without the bloom. Once I got some Dynamat, I took the foam out and the Dynamat tightened things up nicely. I think I posted a pic but it's too hard to search for it on my phone.

Okay, I’m about ready to try modding my 650s. Is there any consensus on the size of coin to use to make the “quarter mod” hole?

Do most folks really use a quarter? Seems awfully large to me.

I see above that Jun Li recommends a dime.

On page 16 of this thread songmic said he tried more than ten variations until he found the “perfect” mode with a Japanese 1 yen coin. (Might be a bit hard for me to find one here in Chicago....)

Anyone else want to throw in their two cents on their favorite coin?

Nickel. It's between a dime and a quarter.

The foam cut in the front of the driver should be about the same size as the foam you removed from the back of the driver. So if you can measure that it would be awesome. Yeah it's about nickel size. I suggested dime because when you cut around it you might over shoot and make it a nickel, just more head room and safer you can experiment with different sizes. The coins are on the foams that I removed from the back of the drivers so you can see.

Hey, those pics are really helpful (as is the explanation of the size to aim for)--thanks so much, Jun Li!
