Maybe I missed it, but has 'HD650M' ever been shown to measure differently to a vanilla HD650?

IIRC, Bill-P had some measures but I could be wrong. To my ears, I can hear slight sonic differences.

    Thanks.

    For reference;

"When we look at all these plots and at the effects the various 'known' modifications bring about it is obvious the measured differences do not seem to jive with the many reports of huge improvements in various aspects of music reproduction. Of course, the few plots here can not tell the whole story and explain all facets as audio reproduction and above all 'reconstitution' of the sound waves entering our ears by the brain is quite complex. Signals that could easily be audible may be too small to be shown in linear scale plots or are masked by larger signals. After all the measurements only show the peak levels. Small signals could thus be masked in plots by larger ones but still be audible. Still... I think there is a added value in these plots and they appear to show that measurable differences are there. The measured differences are mostly well within the limits of audible perception."

I think the reason is that there are a particular set of mods that Purrin put together that work well. It's just an easy way of referencing these specific set of mods.

Ordered some chi-fi retaining rings and the Hm5 hybrids for a pad swap. The retaining rings showed up first, so I just couldn't resist.

Sound is very forward, definitely not an acoustic improvement in any stretch of the imagination, but I'll keep it till my pads show up. The retaining rings were a pain to put on though, it's a very tight fit.

what are chi-fi retaining rings? I have been looking for rings for my HD650 for a while. I couldn't seem to find anything when i googled chi-fi rings.

I could be wrong but chi-fi might be silly for china-fi or a "quality" product from China. These are normally found on aliexpress.

I've seen the term mostly used in a derogatory way in regard to the 'cheap' chinese gear (Yulong, Gustard, Yaqin, Little Dot, Matrix, etc) but also seen people refer to AGD gear as 'chi-fi' so some people may see it as just products from China.

There are rumors of an HD6XX, If massdrop goes through with it I wish it has a frequency response close to this. Just a rough draft.

Good luck with that sub bass response in an open dynamic headphone.

Dynamat helped with sub-bass for me, a little EQ helps a bit more. But still nothing like the extension and impact of my Blackwoods.

Reading about Sonarworks in the $99 fixed the hd800 thread got me curious so I installed the trial VST plugin into foobar2000 and tried out the HD650 "average" preset.

This is their FR for the stock HD650.

These are their "correction" and "after" curves (hey put a limit on the amount of sub-bass that can be compensated for which is why the bass boost rolls off just above 30Hz).

As for the sound, there was way too much bass, like someone pushed the Loudness button on an old receiver. I'm not sure if it's because I've done the rear foam and Dynamat mods, but the the corrected result is definitely not "flat". The custom setting only seems to have a bass and treble adjustment and an overall tilt - little more than tone knobs. The Electri-Q plugin described in The HD800 EQ-ing Thread is much more useful for tweaking FR, and it's free.

You need to lower your Dry/Wet down.
