I'd consider Second Skin Damplifier Pro. They have an international sampler pack that's the perfect size for headphone modding, and it's a better damper than Dynamat Extreme.

Can't link to my post with the sampler pack link on my phone, but it's on this page of the Dynamat thread. Searching this (the HD650) thread for the term will bring up a few other positive impressions.

I did the Dynamat (extreme @Kattefjaes) mod only to my HD650 this morning and I am listening SE on Jotunheim. It is easy to notice how it helps with detail in the lower mids and bass. Also taking the pads off allowed me to "rotate the tires" and position them where the thickest part is sitting below and behind my ears. This helps with comfort and also improved the soundstage and giving more openness to the sound.

I bought the speaker pack of Dynamat Extreme from Amazon and didn't use much at all. I would like to donate all the rest to the SBAF community just like @philipmorgan did awhile ago.
I will put up a listing soon. If you are interested in getting a 3x5 inch piece PM me.

I'm getting ready to do some more mods to my HD650 (ordered some damplifier pro) and I'm wondering if anyone has tried covering up the 8 holes around the driver and what effect that might have on the sound? Has this been tried by anyone? Good or bad idea?

^^^ While I know that's not your HD650 in the picture, let me note for future reference that if the rear foam is still in place then covering those holes seems to have a pretty bad effect on the sound. Really recesses the mids.

With full mods, covering the ports maybe brought about the slightest bass boost and maybe further tightened up the impulse response. I say maybe because any changes could be usual measurement variance. Subjectively sounds just fine to me.

    I finally finished my mod.

The most frustrating part was drilling the hole in the center of the damplifier ring. I just couldn't pull it off, neatly. I ended up putting some black gaffer tape over that part of the damplifier.

It ended up looking okay to me with the grille on.

    And I painted the headphone.

I have not listened to it long enough to say much other than it sounds really different than stock and I like the way it sounds.

    "650M"

Ha! Nearly didn't notice it. Why not "650D"? :D

What do fellow lovers of the modded HD650 use as their portable solution? Nothing quite strikes me like the tonal balance/sense of realism/dynamics of the HD650M, everything else seems peaky and unnatural now :(

Also neat job @Dino, possibly the cleanest I've seen!

The closest I have come to a peak-free tuning that works well with all genres is the Andromeda with a great source behind it like the Sony ZX2.

Thanks for all the info in this thread chaps. More or less unanimous approval of these mods gave me the confidence to invalidate the warranty of my brand new HD650s within a few days of receiving them. The mods bring the HD650 more towards some of the better characteristics of the HD600 imho, though with deeper & tighter bass and generally more heft. I'm pleased overall except I think the coin mod (which I did last after listening without for a while) ruined things a bit for me. Fiona Apple @ 800hz is now somewhat painful & fatiguing where she was sultry & sexy before. Reckon I'll next try the different materials out front that some have discussed.

Cutting to the chase, the coin mod made it a little shrill for you? Worth knowing, thanks. (Also, nice work!)
