I can't say I noticed a difference when I got my balanced cable from BTG audio. Brian was great to deal with and his prices are really competitive. What amp are you pairing them with? Jotunheim? I think there might be more of a difference if the amp performs best balanced vs single ended. Devil's advocate, the money might be better used saving for something else you really want.

Oh you're going to be in for a treat! I've read countless times that Mjolnir 2 is best balanced. If you can DIY, just reterminate the stock cable. If you're still wanting for something more then go for a custom cable.

Yes, I've talked with Soup and he hasn't applied Dynamat to area B/C at all. I was just wondering if it might not be such a good idea to block out the grey C portion, if they are indeed vents meant to let sound out. I don't feel confident applying a circular cut piece on top of the magnet, so I may have to get as close as possible to the driver for the most effective damping and that is area B/C.

On a side note, I ordered the Damplifier Pro too. It sounds like a better solution than Dynamat.

This might be out of the blue, but has anyone removed the decorative pieces to reduce weight? Using dynamat adds a pretty significant amount of heft, so i removed mine a while ago as a quick remedy. I just could not get used to the clamp and modded weight even after a year of regular use and clamp adjustment.

I don't know how much of this is true, but I find it interesting and worth to share.
Kashibo-san from Delrimour Modern audio-acustik told me that based on the houndreds of HD650s he modded, there are at least four versions of the HD650. (He have been modding Sennehiser headphones for years now and usually participates at the "Tokyo Headphone Festival" with his modded Sennheiser headphones.)
    He calls them
-"Cassic", which is the black screen version from 2003 and after,
-"Final Classic" which is the first silver screen model
-"Current Model" made after 2014, silver screen, some internal design change
-"Golden Era" made between the "Final Classic" and "Current Model" and Sennheiser used much higher quality materials in these models. Even the touch of the plastic parts is different. It supposed to sound much better than the other models even without modding. The HD600 has the same "Golden Era" version.
When a "Golden Era" HD600/HD650 modded by him pops up at the japanese Yahoo aucion site it usually sells for more than 100.000 yen (1000 USD).
This might explain why some HD650s sounds better, or at least different than the others even with the same mods.

I wasn't aware there was more than one version, but I did get to hear the Delrimour Modern mod less than a year ago. It was unimpressive and in some ways worse than the stock HD650. The rear foam/spider removal mod alone is much better.

You definitely need to throw some of that Damplifier pro on top of the magnet man, dont be scared :p

My intension was not to say that the Delrimour Modern mod is anything special. Just that there might be some silver screen HD650s around made from better quality materials and with different sound.
By the way I have a new stock HD650 and a "Current Model" Delrimour modded one which I got from a friend as a gift.
I think the Delrimour mod basically is just replacing the front foam with some net-like mesh material (instead of the coin mod) and the rear foam sheet with a sponge like foam ring (instead of just removing it) and putting some fo.Q dampening foam to the back (instead of dynamat). I added some Damplifier Pro to the back and now the stock one sounds veiled and thin
in comparison. I will do the regular sbaf mods on the stock one sometime and compare the two.

DELRIMOUR MODERN audio · acoustik HD650 and something about the "Golden Era" HD650 & HD600.

    Read all about it.
(Then explain it to me.) :)

@Lasollor - I'm skeptical about the "Golden Era" HD6X0 but it is interesting. These articles read like a mystery.
Seems like you gave more information about the mods and the "Golden Era" than these articles did. (But then, I got kind of dizzy reading the google translations.)

There isn’t much else about it on those sites, mostly subjective opinion about how organic it sounds compared to the not “Golden era” models, and how everyone can immediately hear the difference. You can hunt them down if you know the serial numbers, but because only used items exist, most of it is without the original box and you have to take them apart if you want to know the serial number.
The different, little coarser finish of the housing is also hard to see on pictures, but the guy on the first link managed to find one somehow.

This is my “Current Model" with the Damplifier Pro applied:

@Lasollor What is that material you have on them instead of foam between driver and cushions?

Anyone tried doubling up the Damplifier pro (stacking it) ? Also is it a majority opinion to put Damplifier pro on or around the magnet? Then foam is to personal taste? Thanks

Not that I recall. That thought crossed my mind. Several posts by people feeling that they overdid their Dynamat and removing some (not stacking though, IIRC). I decided to stick with the popular version of Damplifier pro application. I liked it and didn't feel like doing the double up experiment, FWIW.
Majority opinion is do so. Doughnut style seems the most popular. @Hands recommended leaving a 3mm gap from the hole in the dampening doughnut to the hole in the middle of the magnet. I did something like that, inspired by Hands post.
I think you are talking about the foam on the doughnut ring that some are talking about, but I'm not sure. Is it that foam or the front foam (coin mod) that you are asking about?

The modded 650 is so good, so satisfying, that I for the first time felt completely satiated by my setup and forgot about this forum for half a year. (For the record, still sated.)

Thank you for your info. You are correct, the foam on the doughnut ring on the magnet. I've started the "coin mod" with a small hole (dime size) hole doesn't go all the way to the closest ring.

Edit: seems @Ray has some. If that doesn't work out I have a 12x14 cm piece of damplifier pro I could give you. PM me if that's of any interest.

Sorry guys. I actually noticed the post sometimes back but I couldn't find it just now. I know some of you might have some therefore trying my luck here. Been searching through a few HD650 threads but still overlooked it. My bad!

Thanks TwoEars for your generosity! Will contact you soon. You guys are really great :)
