Two brothers walk into the house, only one will be kept, which will it be?

These are tough, tough cans to separate:

-HD600 is slightly more agressive in the upper mids, can detect just a some sibilance in female vocals that isn't there in the HD650.
-A lil' more treble presence in the HD600 than HD650, doesn't seem to particularly translate into more detail though
-Maybe a wider stage on the HD650, hard to tell...
-More bass emphasis on HD650, especially from mid-bass upwards, HD600 bass seems cleaner (keep in mind these are modded)

    UPDATE:
-HD650's bass emphasis makes them more genre versatile, not sure about bass quality between the two now, if I only had one headphone in my setup, would choose HD650 over HD600, but I have planars so...

Nice! I had the same dilemma and I thought the stock HD 600 sounded better. But hey I don't have the HD 600 anymore because I modded my HD 650 ;).

Sadly mines was stock HD 600 vs modded HD 650, I wonder what you'll prefer if you modded both of them.

    Hi Guys,

This company in the UK does mass loading mods to headphones like the HD650 and HD25 using pieces of lead (I think)

Please check out the video and let me know what you think. I'm thinking of sending in my HD650 for this hoping it has the same effect as the dynamat mod.

They charge $32 for the mod so it doesn't seem unreasonable.

They sell an uber HD650 as well....

I'm not related to them in anyway but seems interesting.

Make sure you get a genuine pair. It's expensive, but 100% worth it.

Save your money. Honestly every mod that you can do to these are really easy and simple to do. It's almost impossible to f**k it up. Get a slab of dynamat or damplifier for like $10 and just follow the directions that are either in this thread or the 650 appreciation one.

:) Custom Cables says lead is the way to go:

"The drivers on these have had the foam on the back of the driver removed to open them up a bit more and make them sound less veiled and we have surrounded the back of the driver in lead.
The lead adds mass which helps the driver reproduce the very low frequencies more accurately. We did a bit of testing using a similar mass of clay and the lead seemed to improve things more noticeably. We are still not 100% sure why the lead made additional improvements but it may be something to do with leads diamagnetic properties pushing some of the magnetic flux back in towards the voice coil - either way it livens up the HD650 and HD600 and gives more low end detail."

The whole thread is worth reading, for all of the twists and turns in opinions/variations on the mod:

Or just follow the excellent guide done by @zonto:

Fortunately lead is super safe and has never caused any problems for anyone. Also, I find custom cans more credible than the naysayers because they chose a silhouette of a sexxy babe with SMGs akimbo as part of their logo. It really screams "great headphones".

I am not familiar with all of that, but I do have a Lead Balloon that I am not scared of. :)

    There's nothing wrong with lead.

It's like asbestos. Everybody uses it!

For my HD580/HD600/HD650 I find these quite versatile.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/172249514900 $115 shipped.

-10 feet Canare headphone cable with HD650 HD600 HD580 Sennheiser pins on one end and Neutrik 4 pin male XLR on other.

-1 foot cable for PONO music player with dual 3.5mm plugs on one end and Neutrik 4 pin female XLR on other

-1 foot cable with 1/4" connector and Neutrik 4 pin female XLR on other.

-1 foot cable with 1/8"(3.5mm) connector and Neutrik 4 pin female XLR on other.

I can even use them with my PonoMusic Player. I find that it sounds great - in balanced mode - with the Sennheisers.

I have a pair of those Venus Audio balanced cables. I like them alot. The only drawback is that they are a bit heavier than the stock cable.

I removed the spider web or whatever u call it. It does indeed sound like the spider made some treble differencies.
Also seem to have become more bassy?

I use my HD650 for listening to music, watching movies and playing videogames so the pads are starting to get really worn out. What changes in sound have you experienced from worn out pads? Thinking about getting new ones but they are a bit expensive for mere pads in my opinion. Fake ones probably won't do.
