Merrick, I gotta ask; if you guys are interested in loaner-ing should I ask those who PM me about it to hold off? I am not against the idea of a loaner tour but it's a heavy piece though and I will have to get on devising a solid packaging system. OTOH I think we're talking about 35 lbs in a package maybe more? I could see it costing about $40-50 to ship with insurance and no special discounts from a fedex or ups.

We can self-insure (but with signature confirmation) on this one. I can restructure some foam that we use for shipping Studio / ZDs.

A great way to hear an alternative R2R is with the MHDT Loaner - a much more reasonable sized DAC with good R2R characteristics.

    Take care of yourself first!

That being said, it wouldn't be a bad idea for SBAF to retain equipment for an ongoing loaner check-outs, maybe for a nominal fee. HD650 and Jotun come to mind. I wasn't overly impressed with the MDHT unit I heard, and the SF DACs seem to be much more positively talking about. If pcx wasn't servicing them, I wouldn't be considering them. But I do think they offer a good reference old school R2R DAC sound.

To clarify, I meant 20 with the (yes - no) votes. Current score is 14-3 = 11.

I think it would be interesting, but if it came down to using funds for this, or having a couple of the upcoming ZMF headphones circulating on tour, I would choose the latter in a heartbeat. Not sure if the funds situation allows for both, but I will vote no for now.

I sent a PM out of interest. If he sells to me, I'll put it on a loaner tour after evaluation and possibly sell at a further discounted rate after. Unless I want to keep it.

I suspect the new ZMFs and other new release headphones will be readily available at meets and likely people here will buy them too. Food for thought.

I think we have sufficient interest in an alternative R2R DAC implementation to go for this. We gathered 25 votes for the Musette in the 2016 Fall/Winter loaner candidates thread, which puts it in the lead considering we decided not to invest in USB dookie-be-gones and HMF let us borrow his TIII.

Also, this is $430 cheaper than the Musette.

If you count the Musette votes we're at 46-6 = 40 votes. :p

I think the appeal of the newer Metrum DACs is that they're new and readily attainable for all at any point in time.

I say have me buy the SFD, loan it out, and use SBAF funds for other stuff. Win win? ;) (Yeah, I'm just trying to nab it, no shame).

Can someone talk to Zach on the Musette? I believe he is a dealer. I'd rather buy from him than support some mysterious middle man who imports these.

This better not sound like ass, e.g. Metrum Quad.

Yeah, I can chat with him about that and possible loaners on his new HPs when ready. Already have some similar discussions going on regardless.

However, I cannot promise you will like it even with the strong advancements.

I wouldent think so. I've shipped a 40lb receiver, cost about $25 to ship.
And 40lb big speakers, about $35

Yeah, I've shipped 80 lb amps for $40, I think I hit dim weight at its size, so this should be ok. Poll hit 23/8 so we have a decision? :punk:

It's been decided, the DAC is going to Hands and then loaner to follow.

Shipping details: $36.60 after 8% discount via FedEx Ground. Insured at $750.

    Box dimensions: 32x28x11

The packaging is double boxed re-using old server gear cushioning, I am including a IEC power cable, the spare tubes, and plan to remove the original screws for the top and replace with a few from the hardware store. The idea is that there's a million screws to get the top off so this can save the original screws from getting stripped and makes it slightly less cumbersome to tube swap (6dj8/6922).
