This is where my friend and I left off. Lamenting the era of ~4 minute repetitive singles, at the cost of risk taking and those epic pieces that the musician's deserve so much kudos for.

The "crescendos" and "drops" so often heard in EDM nowadays are indeed rubbish and boring, but f**k me did Drum'n'Bass nail that stuff in the 90s and early 2000s.

How suspense building and drops should be ...

Some great stuff mentioned here. My favorite crescendo song is Jeff Buckley's "Grace."

It builds and builds in the last quarter of the song, and then his voice -- that voice -- just runs you right off a cliff at the end. I get goosebumps every single time.

I never expected the Queens Of The Stone Age to create something this beautiful. This is ELP, Moody Blues and David Bowie in one song while Josh Homme croons like it is nothing. This is seriously good...

@numbersixx , that Gorecki piece is wrenchingly beautiful. Good pick.

OK masters of the climax are Wagner and post Wagner pre bullshit, so:
    Wagner, Mahler, Bruckner, Scriabin, Ravel

Mahler there are too many but this is one of my favs (apologies to @Claritas for the excessive German but it will only get worse from here on out):
