There are already dealers lowering prices on this, and I wasn't suspecting that. Patience might lend itself to a truly fair price for this headphone..... if its worthy of SBAF that is (me most likely, but I'm the weirdo here)

FYI I bought this for USD1500 plus 4 Kimber Kables, so the price is fair.

...20Hz and lower ? You do not hear continuous tone below 25 Hz. A broken rumble maybe.

    GelockS: google translate..

Short crappy translation for the lazy:

    STRONG POINTS
    • Restitution rich, natural and warm.
    • Depth of bass.
    • Extremely low distortion.
    • Good sensitivity / Requires little power.
    • Ultra-solid and neat construction.
    • Complete accessories.
    WEAK POINTS
    • Bass a bit too cottony on some pieces.
    CONCLUSION [IMG]
The Sony Z1R is a great success. Its design is almost irreproachable and its sound performance is excellent. With membranes a little more reactive in the bass, one would have really approached the perfect closed helmet.Recommended for fans of deep and soft bass, but also for very large wallets.

At least they have the decency to highlight an actual negative point unlike the usual Headfi fake negative points like 'the cable is too long',
It needs a good amp, it's expensive etc.

Why do some websites like to use a linear scale for the distortion measurements? It's like they're attaching graphs and they have no idea what they represent.
Also not a big fan of square waves myself.

I wouldn't describe the bass on the Z1R as "wooly" or "cottony"...unless I were doing a direct comparison with the TH900, which has subbass that hits like a jackhammer.

At home it is: Denon 300F TT w/Denon DL110 cart > RSA Nighthawk Preamp > Felicks Elise > Z1R
On my commute it is: AK100ii > Z1R
At work it is: AK100ii > Zana Deux Micro (until recently was Alo CDM) > Z1R

Interesting turn in the pricing scheme:UK Amazon sells the Sony for 1380£. I wonder how the early adaptors feel at the moment o_O.
