Don't blame you for thinking that. The I heard a pair of the original Forte, when I was a teenager. And I was in love immediately. I guess I'm a sucker for the double horns.

"nostalgia porn" would be more appropriate...

I would be so paranoid about the weld joint breaking and dropping a planet onto the drivers...

    Observe, the advertisement video:

Mr Duevel clearly had a lot of fun making it.

Did I just watch an acetylene torch spooging it's way across space?

You watched something cylindrical lengthen between two balls.

If it bends that much, you're doing it wrong...

I'll pass on the planets, but Manger interests me. They are different. Whether different works, as per the company's published aims and literature, I don't know, but, if I had the cash. it is one of those audio questions I would have liked to answer for myself.

Somebody on this continent did once offer me a pair of a smaller model. It was tempting; indeed it was a very good price... but I decided that I liked driving my car too much.

I never saw the Duevel Planets before. Apparently they are omni-directional because they are upward firing and reflect off of the spheres (including the woofer). I can't quite get my head around that.

The instant I saw these I thought, they would look better without the names on them. (I think that came before I pondered the spheres.) o_O
The webpage says "Planets by Annette Duevel".

They come in a wide variety of colors. http://www.duevel.com/Produkte/EPlanets.shtml

Same concept as the Davone Mojo Lamp . Haven't heard either before, pretty rare.

But if you get their more conventional Davone Ray VSA, I think it's a must to listen to them from a Eames lounge chair.

    Be there, or... :)

Weird thing. Biggest double take so far on opening this thread. Weird but intriguing.

Wow. Give me speakers made like that, and keep the amplifier cases milled out of ingots! Incredible.

    Weird, intriguing and wantable?

    Kinky speaker porn!

I remember seeing ads for Sony speakers with square drivers. In the ad copy, Sony would play this up as superior technology. You will notice that they are also somewhat flat. Something about them working like a piston, IIRC. I figured they were simply a way to differentiate those Sony speakers from the competition. (There was a bigger market for expensive speakers in the 80s than there is today.) Sony didn't stick with this technology, so...

Speaking of square flat drivers, I spent some time with these in Tokyo: FAL (Furuyama Audio Lab)
    Here is the website. http://www.bentaudio.com/stuff/fal.html
Mr. Iwao Furuyama himself made me some tea as we chatted about how he came up with this design many years ago.
The imaging and staging was actually some of the best I've ever heard. However resolution and transients were 'off ' and not to my liking.
