I am often asked by friends when there are multiple releases of an album, which is the best? Rarely do I know. I can sometimes tell them the worst, but not the best. With all the musical knowledge out there in our community, I thought we might share which releases we think sound the best.

Here's my question. I have a close friend who loves Peer Gynt. I gave him a copy that someone on another forum said was the best ever. It wasn't. Not close. It sucked actually. So does anyone have a suggestion for an excellent release of Peer Gynt? My friend is CD only guy.

Try checking the Steve Hoffman forum, they are into discussing different mastering, especially since Steve did a bunch of them in the past.

There's also an SACD board where they discuss which releases are better than others.
