The easiest blind tests are yet to be made

I've read about some interesting blind tests here and there on the internet, but at least those I've found involved similar gear (in terms of performance). This normally raise the difficulty of the test.

Yggdrasil vs Antelope Zodiac Platinum
...

As much as I appreciate those tests, their results are often you know... too close to call.

I wonder if some of you have made blind tests comparing quality affordable gear with top of the line gear.
I think that should be great in many ways.

Say,

Magni 2 Uber vs Ragnarok
Asgard 2 vs Violectric V200
Modi 2 Uber vs Yggdrasil
ODAC vs X-Sabre

You get my point.

Hopefully, these tests would yield much more clear results than those involving similar performers.

I agree with most of what you say.
Blind tests involve the tester's memory and can be pretty difficult.
I would also say that it's possible that you happen to enjoy Device A more than Device B even if you can't ABX them successfully.

Sadly I'm pretty far away in the South of the world and it's difficult (and VERY expensive) to get most of the products listed here.

 

That's a very nice thread and congrats on your results.

Statistical validity aside, I think that if you (an experienced listener) can be successful in such a test (I mean comparing 'similar' performers), there should be plenty of people able to be successful in the easier ODAC vs Yggdrasil (or Gungnir Multibit) test.

And plenty of people succeeding in a blind test involving two "transparent" DACs...
That would be really interesting.
