To get away with it people usually use the more neutral 'elsewhere' or similar.

Worse than mentioning the unnameable, you drew attention to to the petty censorship. They probably don't like you now.

Yup, suggesting that there is a conspiracy (which there is) to keep some entities (and events) from the public view isn't going to go down well with the powers that be...

You may as well just post as "Voldemort Macbeth", you'd get about as warm a welcome on HF, @m.i.c.k.e.y.

(..that absolutely has to be either my wrestling or porn name..)

My internet alter ego is quite clever, although obscure, as a person would have to know something about Indian percussion to appreciate it, but I sometimes wish I had gone with Vas Deferens. In the world of porn, though, I guess that would have to be Vas Deferens MMMMCMXXXVII

    Naah... That Shallow!

Lmao I had the same thing happen some time ago... This was the reply I got:

"For myriad reasons (some of which you may or may not be familiar), we do not allow links or reference to superbestaudiofriends from Head-Fi. As a result, your post (the original unedited text of which can be found below) was deleted.

That was the only reason your post was deleted. If you want to re-post your post (or something like it) without reference or links to superbestaudiofriends, that's fine."

Just refer to "another forum" or "elsewhere". People can always PM you if they want more details- and HF doesn't (normally) police your PMs, yet.

I just got corrected on a Jotunheim post, actually valuing you guys posts and opinions and measurements. I guess I'll just keep participating here and take a pass on headfi. Why do they hate this place so much?

Long story Droopy - but your time will be best used participating here than finding the intricacies of the HF drama.

    My Head-Fi History
I wanted to get try to get into headphone listening after decades of speaker only listening. I bought HD650/Pono/balanced cables. Cool, I was and am happy with that setup.

I then decided that I also wanted a DAC and amplifier to listen to FLAC files from my computer. Nothing SOTA, just something that I could enjoy music on.

I started to look around on Head-Fi. I read about the Bottlehead Crack and thought that might be what I was looking for. It seemed that Speedball was the #1 recommended upgrade. I wanted a Crack with Speedball - so far so good.

I read the Crack thread. Read about (what seemed like) a 100 "best" caps and a 1000 "best" tubes. I read the entire thread. Took an enormous amount of time and all that I got from the "best" caps/tubes recommendations/proclamations is there cannot be nearly that many "bests". I decided that Head-Fi was not the place for me.

Learned my lesson and got out of there.

You know.... bashing is all fun and games but in some ways SBAF should be thankful that HF exists. Think about it, what does HF do... exactly?

    1) Attracts lots of newcomers to the hobby (many didn't even know that this was a hobby until they found HF)
    2) Keeps the industry well fed by pushing merchandise. "Sorry about your vallet!"
    3) Vets those newcomers by having them vade through a veritable sea of BS

HF is like a boot camp for audio enthusiasts. And an all too real crash course in industry manufacturer / media / customer relationships.

HF is a harsh school, and maybe not the most encouraging in the long run. But I think it serves its purpose well enough. Chances are that if you've got a decent head on your shoulders you'll see through the BS sooner or later. And then you'll either leave internet audio forums behind you, or you'll join something like SBAF. And the fact that SBAF isn't mentioned on HF makes it even better, you have to find it yourself or by word of mouth. You should be thanking those mods that keep censoring SBAF. Seriously - send them cake.

So - HF takes the fresh recruits and puts them through their paces. In the end not all of them will survive, but those that do come out of it harder, tougher and as more independent thinkers. A few sad souls will be broken by the process and become shills, but such is the way of life.

In many ways SBAF has only managed to grow so much, and become what it is today, because of what HF is. The relationship between HF and SBAF is more symbiotic than anything else. HF gives SBAF some of their best recruits, SBAF gives HF some of its best knowledge.

Yes - I suck Jude's 6th appendage. Make all the jokes you want.

Maybe I'll draw some fire from you @TwoEars.

I have spent a little (very little) time looking at reddit. (I hadn't heard of reddit until I read references to it on SBAF. This made me curious.)

The first thread that I looked at happened to have had numerous questions from people that have very little financial resources. Questions like "I have managed to save up $30. What suggestions do you have for for IEMs/Headphones in that price range? I will be using it daily on mass transit so sound isolation is a priority. Also it cannot require an amplifier. I must use it straight out of my phone."

They are music lovers. They are simply wanting info to spend their money wisely within their budgets. They have to have somewhere to turn for advice. I only hope they are getting useful info on reddit.

    A counter argument:
My friend @%20 Oddity is new to the world of high end audio. She did a little research by reading Joker's IEM list and picking some out, but she never joined head-fi. Didn't even visit the site AFAIK: she went to some other website that had the list.

She became interested in audio equipment further through me, and I told her to join SBAF if she wanted to learn more. She's been reading up on a lot of the threads here and is learning fast.

For Christmas she's getting a Stax SRS-3100 system. She also got a pair of Koss PortaPros to use on-the-go, and she's thinking about modding the Koss clip-ons into some headphones.

Now she's saving up for a U-Turn Orbit turntable and a transformer.

    Point being:
My friend is a student with a student's extremely low budget. She managed to avoid all the head-fi drama and consumerist hype cycles, which in her position would have possibly lead to some extremely costly mistakes. When she finally *did* visit head-fi, she was like "wtf? How am I supposed to find anything in these hundreds of pages of nonsense?"

Yes, I helped her with my knowledge which was garnered from many years of head-fi nonsense, but that's just it: WE who have gone through all that have the ability to help. And I'm not exactly pulling the strings here either: she went to a local audio show and auditioned a bunch of headphones, and through her experience and own set of ears---combined with knowledge from myself and SBAF---decided on the entry level Stax.

Head-fi isn't so much a boot camp as it is being dropped headlong into an active war zone. We should spare the newer generations this whenever possible.

    @MuppetFace

I understand where you're coming from, but what you're describing is the ideal scenario. It doesn't make what I said any less true, but it does mean that your friend is lucky to have you. :)

Just remember that "that place" is one giant infomercial. Know that going in. You waste lots of money if you don't. I did...
