Just got back from listening to the HE-1.

Unfortunately, the employee who helped me had no idea about any Tidal setup, even though I saw a laptop there and asked about it, and they only had a thunderbolt connector to use, so I had to use their CDs. I went with DSOTM, which was already in the player, since time was limited.

Holy subbass. That is some strong impact. Every kick drum and deep bass note was accompanied by little taps to my eardrums. The bass was super fast, but lacking fullness, however. Midbass felt pretty dwarfed compared to the subbass. Another thing that struck me was that the imaging and separation were very good. In Us and Them, the delayed repeated vocals at the end of each line in the verses moved right behind my head in space as they faded out, and further back with each repeat. I've never heard that before, and even afterwards, I can't hear it do that as clearly on any of my gear. This is weird, because the actual width and front depth of the soundstage was tiny. The mids weren't that great, and the treble was more present than my preference but not too fatiguing.

Comfort wise, they're heavy and the headband is very much like the HD800 headband. They don't clamp a ton, so they moved forward and back on my head quite a bit. The ear cups completely encompassed my ears, which was pretty nice.

Overall, it was a fun listen. I'd like to try them again with some of my own testing tracks.

Anyone else notice the Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary CD/SACD that Sennheiser has there. Hopefully they are playing the SACD layer of this. The CD layer has a different mastering and is generally considered the only "bad" mastering of this album. One could debate which mastering is the best, but I think it would be easy to come to a consensus on the worst - this one. The only one with peak limiting and digital clipping is being used to demo Sennheiser's flagship.o_O

This has been bugging me since I first saw this picture.

When I saw DSOTM I wondered which release it was, since it's one of those albums where people debate over which release is the best.

I didn't look at the player too closely, I definitely will if I go back. I have a picture of it:

Ironically the SACD layer mastering of DSOTM is my personal favorite.

The CD Layer of the hybrid 30th Anniversary release is the one that got all of the peak limiting. The SACD layer did not.

I kind of forget sometimes that Marv did do some mods to the unicorn-Jades I have. He should get more credit for that.

The old ship was up for a few minutes so I was able to grab the measurements. Pure goodness...

The Jades that @bozebuttons brought to the last NY meet were pretty bright. I don't think they would have measured nearly as nice as they did on your pair.

Yep, his Jades (and probably all stock Jades) on the KGSSHV Carbon were very bright. What do the modded ones look like, @shipsupt?

Seems like changstar is up for me. Here's the original HE Jade measurement thread: http://static.changstar.com/www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,310.0.html
I still have most of the changstar measurements saved. Attached the Jade R CSD which kind of does describe what we heard at the NY meet.

BTW: I feel we should make a HE1 impressions index with links to all the SBAF impressions.

UGLY! They are pretty rough looking.

I'll grab some pictures and do my best to try and show what's been done on the modifications. I don't want to reverse anything at this point for fear of disturbing the secret sauce!

Thought you meant his face for a minute...
Yes piss yellow looks like old aged cardboard stained with cigarette smoke...
    Dammit why piss yellow...
    Ugg.

I know this is Sennheiser thread but the video really shocked me how DIY it looked then. I seen it much different so know I don't know which is latest version, except that I agree using big bottle 300b is a bit odd and superficial in idea for stat amp...
